In the National Basketball Association (NBA), points are used to measure the scoring efficiency of a player. Data

In the 2019-2020 NBA season, there were a lot of great players. But, only one player averaged the most points per game. Who was this player? The answer might surprise you.

Data Collection

Several different methods were used to collect the data for this study. The first was a survey of NBA fans. The second was a survey of basketball experts. The third was to compile data from existing sources such as basketball reference website.

Data Analysis

In order to understand how the data was collected, it is important to first understand what points are and how they are calculated in the NBA. In the NBA, points are used to determine the winner of a game. Each team starts with 0 points, and whichever team has more points at the end of the game wins.

There are two ways to score points in the NBA: by making baskets and by shooting free throws. A basket is worth 2 or 3 points, depending on whether it is made from inside or outside of the three-point line. A free throw is worth 1 point.

The data for this analysis was collected from the website basketball-reference.com. This website contains a wealth of information on every player who has ever played in the NBA, as well as every game that has ever been played in the NBA. For this analysis, we were interested in finding out which players averaged the most points per game over their careers.

To do this, we first compiled a list of all of the players who have played in the NBA since 1950 (when basketball-reference.com’s data begins). We then calculated each player’s career average points per game, and sorted the players from highest to lowest average.

The results of our analysis are shown below. As you can see, some of the greatest players in NBA history (such as Michael Jordan and LeBron James) are at the top of this list. However, there are also some lesser-known players who appear on this list because they were able to sustain high scoring averages over long careers.”

Results

Michael Jordan averaged the most points in the NBA over his career, with an average of 30.1 points per game. Kobe Bryant is second on the list, averaging 25.0 points per game. LeBron James is third, averaging 24.6 points per game.
