2K Games announced on August 5, 2019 that WWE 2K20 will be developed by Visual Concepts, who also developed NBA 2K20. This will be the first WWE game not to be developed by Yuke’s since WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007.

The game’s primary mode is a story-driven MyCareer mode, in which players create a custom superstar and guide them through several years of games action. Along the way, players can make key decisions that will determine the superstar’s relationships with other characters. Timeline
2K Sports announced on June 18, 2019 that WWE 2K20 would be released on October 22, 2019, making it the first entry in the series to be released on a seventh generation console in North America. The game was developed by Visual Concepts, who also developed WWE 2K19. On July 1, 2019, 2K announced that Ronda Rousey and Roman Reigns would be the cover athletes for WWE 2K20. This made Rousey the first woman to appear solo on a WWE video game cover and Reigns the third person (and first man) to appear twice as a cover athlete for the series after Steve Austin and John Cena.
Pre-orders for the game went live on August 5, 2019. Those who pre-ordered the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition received access to WWE 2K20 four days early on October 18, 2019. The game’s downloadable content was released in three separate packs; “WWE Originals”, “Bump in the Night” and “Rising Stars”.

The game’s reception was generally negative. Review aggregator site Metacritic gave the PlayStation 4 version of the game a score of 33 out of 100, based on 18 reviews, making it one of the lowest-scoring games of 2019, as well as one of the lowest-scoring games in the WWE series.
Eurogamer’s Wesley Yin-Poole awarded it a “D”, writing “a fundamental lack of care has resulted in WWF No Mercy being better than this”.Game Informer’s Matt Miller panned the game as “an embarrassment to both developers and publishers alike”, giving it a score of 3 out of 10.
