Kyrie Irving
The Boston Celtics have agreed to trade Kyrie Irving to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first-round draft pick. The trade will send Irving to his former team, the Cavaliers, while the Celtics will receive a package of players and a draft pick.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, which is shared with the National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets. Dan Gilbert has owned the team since March 2005.
The Cavaliers opened their inaugural season defeating their expansion cousins, the Trail Blazers, 98–96. The team finished its first season with a record of 15–67 and missed the playoffs. Dick Snyder was hired as the team’s first head coach a week before the start of that first season, but was fired four games into it after compiling an 0–5 record. In Ted Stepien’s second year as owner in 1981/82, he decided to move back to a more traditional brown and yellow color scheme after nearly a decade of experimentations with various colors schemes and logos – hence why he is also credited for “inventing” and popularizing hideous color schemes like orange and black (which was later made popular by his other NBA teams – see: New Jersey Nets) and red, white and blue (which was made popular by his WNBA team – see: Cleveland Rockers).
In 1985/86, Stepien sold the Cavaliers to millionaire businessman George Gund III for $12 million who then purchased additional shares to give him controlling interest of 74%. Gund then hired current Lakers executive and former Celtics general manager Jerry West as general manager and head coach Mike Fratello as head coach. Fratello had just been fired two weeks earlier by Atlanta amid conflict with ownership there about personnel decisions; he became only the second coach in NBA history to be hired after being fired from another job during that same season (but would be joined by many other coaches who would do so in future seasons). During West’s tenure with the club, he served as general manager from 1986 to 2000/01 while also leading them to five playoff appearances – including three trips to the Eastern Conference Finals – with teams led by All-Star point guard Mark Price and All-Star center Brad Daugherty; however, they were never able to get over the hump and win an NBA championship despite having one of the best records in basketball throughout most of West’s tenure.
Boston Celtics
Kyrie Andrew Irving is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was named the Rookie of the Year after being selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. A six-time NBA All-Star and two-time member of the All-NBA Second Team, Irving was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2017.
In his second season with the Celtics, Irving sustained a season-ending injury to his knee, which made him miss the entire playoffs. The following year, he was named team captain, but he missed most of the season due to a shoulder injury. In 2019, Irving helped lead the Celtics to their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2012, but he again missed most of the playoffs due to injury.
Jimmy Butler
The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to trade Jimmy Butler and center Justin Patton to the Miami Heat in exchange for a package that includes guard Josh Richardson and center Meyers Leonard, league sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Chicago Bulls
The Chicago Bulls are an American professional basketball team based in Chicago, Illinois. The Bulls compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team was founded on January 16, 1966 and played its first game during the 1966–67 NBA season. The Bulls play their home games at the United Center, an arena on Chicago’s West Side shared with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded All-Star forward Jimmy Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal that also sends center Justin Patton to the Sixers, league sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Wolves will receive center Joel Embiid, forward Dario Saric, guard Robert Covington, forward Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round draft pick in return for Butler and Patton, sources said.
Paul George
Paul George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder today in exchange for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis. This is a huge trade that will have an impact on the NBA landscape.
Oklahoma City Thunder
George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal that sent Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis to the Indiana Pacers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

George had been at the center of trade rumors for weeks, with the Los Angeles Lakers seen as the frontrunners to land him. But while George reportedly told the Pacers he planned to sign with the Lakers in free agency next summer, he also said he was open to remaining in Indiana long-term if the team could put together a competitive roster.
In Oklahoma City, George will team up with Russell Westbrook to form one of the most dynamic duos in the NBA. The Thunder will likely look to trade either Carmelo Anthony or Steven Adams in order to create more cap space and add another star player to pair with George and Westbrook.
Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The Pacers were first established in 1967 as a member of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and became a member of the NBA in 1976 as a result of the ABA–NBA merger. They play their home games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The team is named after Indiana’s history with the Indianapolis 500’s pace cars and with the harness racing pacers that raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Pacers have won five championships: three in the ABA (1970, 1972, 1973), and two in the NBA (1990, 2000).
