Pippen was an outstanding all-around player, capable of playing both forward positions and making an impact on both ends of the court. A gifted athlete with a long wingspan, Pippen was an excellent defender, both in one-on-one situations and as a member of the Bulls’ vaunted “Double Team” defense, which helped key Chicago’s success. On offense, Pippen was a gifted playmaker and rebounder who could also score when needed; he was one of the few players in NBA history to average at least 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game in a season.

Pippen won his first NBA championship with the Bulls in 1991, and he would go on to win five more titles with Chicago between 1992 and 1998. He was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996 and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.

He led the NBA in scoring during two seasons, and ranks fourth on both the league’s all-time regular season scoring and all-time postseason scoring lists. In 1996, Bryant became the youngest player in NBA history to be drafted by a team when he was selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 13th overall pick of the 1996 NBA draft. He was traded to the Lakers a month later for center Vlade Divac. As a rookie, he started at small forward and averaged 15.5 points per game over 71 games.[1]

Bryant improved his play in his second season, averaging 19 points per game and becoming a starter for 59 games.[2][3] During his third season, Bryant scored a then career high 28 points against Seattle SuperSonics on February 21, 1999.
