We all know that there are a lot of NFL teams out there, but did you know that some players have played for more than one? In fact, there are a few who have played for a whopping eight teams! So who are these journeymen of the gridiron? Let’s take a look.
Brett Favre
Brett Favre played for four teams during his 20-year NFL career. He played for the Atlanta Falcons for two years, the Green Bay Packers for 16 years, the New York Jets for one year, and the Minnesota Vikings for two years. He is the only player in NFL history to have played for four teams.
Green Bay Packers
Brett Favre is a retired American football quarterback who spent the majority of his career with the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the University of Southern Mississippi, and was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft. Favre spent his first three NFL seasons in Atlanta, before being traded to the Packers in 1992. He was quickly named the starting quarterback of the Packers, and held that position for 16 seasons.
During his time with Green Bay, Favre led the Packers to nine playoff appearances, five NFC Championship titles, two Super Bowl appearances and one Super Bowl victory. He also holds numerous NFL records, including most career passing yards (71,838), most career passing touchdowns (508) and most consecutive starts by a quarterback (297). After his time with the Packers, Favre briefly played for both Jets and Vikings before eventually retiring in 2010.
New York Jets
Brett Favre played for the New York Jets in 2008. This was his final season in the NFL.
Minnesota Vikings
Brett Favre was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and played college football at the University of Southern Mississippi. He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft, but was traded to the Green Bay Packers after one season. Favre spent 16 seasons with the Packers, winning three NFL MVP Awards and leading the team to two Super Bowl appearances, winning one in 1997. After a period of retirement and un-retirement, he was traded to the New York Jets in 2008. He played there for one season before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings, where he spent two seasons before retiring for a second time.
Jim Harbaugh
Jim Harbaugh has played for more NFL teams than any other player in the history of the league. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 1987 NFL Draft. He played for the Chicago Bears from 1987 to 1993. He then played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1994 to 1997. He played for the Baltimore Ravens from 1998 to 2001. He then played for the San Diego Chargers from 2002 to 2003. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2004 to 2005. He played for the New York Jets from 2006 to 2007. He then played for the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2009.

The Chicago Bears are a professional American football team based in Chicago, Illinois. The Bears compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. The Bears have won nine NFL Championships and one Super Bowl, and hold the NFL record for the most enshrinements in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the most retired jersey numbers. They have also recorded more victories than any other NFL franchise.
Indianapolis Colts
Under Bill Polian, the Indianapolis Colts became one of the most successful teams in the NFL, reaching the playoffs eleven times between 1998 and 2010. In that time, they won nine division championships, two AFC championships (in 2006 and 2009), and one Super Bowl title (in 2006). Jim Harbaugh was the head coach of the Colts from 1998 to 2001.
Baltimore Ravens
Jim Harbaugh played for the Baltimore Ravens from 1998 to 2001. He was a part of the team that won Super Bowl XXXV in 2000.
Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning is a retired American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 18 seasons. He played college football for the University of Tennessee, and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts as the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. Manning is a five-time NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) and a 14-time Pro Bowl selection.

From 1998 to 2010, he improved the fortunes of the struggling Colts franchise and became one of NFL’s most recognizable and parodied players. Manning was named Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLI, which resulted in a victory over the Chicago Bears. During that season, he set numerous NFL records, including passing for 48 touchdowns and 49 touchdowns—marking the second time in NFL history that a quarterback has thrown for as many as 45 touchdowns in a season.
Denver Broncos
Peyton Manning is a former American football quarterback who played 18 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), primarily with the Indianapolis Colts. Considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, he spent 14 seasons with the Colts and was a member of the team that won Super Bowl XLI. During his time with the Colts, Manning helped turn around a struggling franchise and quickly became one of the most recognizable and marketable players in the NFL.
In 2012, following a string of injuries that limited his playing time, Manning was released by the Colts and signed with the Denver Broncos. He helped lead the team to an AFC Championship victory that year, and to a Super Bowl win in 2016. In his first season with the Broncos, he set new NFL records for passing yards and touchdown passes. He retired from professional football after winning Super Bowl 50.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady has played for a total of 20 NFL teams throughout his career. He began his career with the New England Patriots in 2000, and played for them until 2020. He then moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, and played for them until 2021. He is currently a free agent.
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.
The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in 1970 as part of the AFL–NFL merger. The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971. The Patriots played their home games at Foxboro Stadium from 1971 to 2001, then moved to Gillette Stadium at the start of 2002 season.

Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 after playing 20 seasons with the New England Patriots. He is a six-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Super Bowl MVP.
