Who Has the Best Record in NFL History?
The NFL has a long and storied history. Many different teams have had success over the years, but which team has the best record in NFL history?
The Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States.
The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1922 and 1936. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-pro teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan. They joined the American Professional Football Association, now known as the National Football League, in 1921. The team posted their best ever regular season record of 12–0–1 in 1929.
Since their founding, the Packers have won 13 league championships (including nine NFL Championships before Super Bowls began and four Super Bowls), more than any other team in NFL history, with their most recent win coming in Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also played in (and lost) two more Super Bowls: Super Bowl XXXII against the Denver Broncos and Super Bowl XXXIV against the Atlanta Falcons. In total, they have appeared in 19 (including 9 pre-Super Bowl) NFL title games – more than any other team; they have also won more conference championships (15) than any other team and have more playoff appearances (34) than any other team, tied with Pittsburgh for second place behind Dallas (37). The Packers currently hold NFL records for having long winning streaks both overall with 19 wins,[12] as well as at home with 25 wins;[13][14] due largely to their impressive 20 game winning streak from 1961–1962 at Lambeau Field.[15]
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots have the best record in NFL history. They have won six Super Bowls, including three in the last four years. They have also won 14 conference championships, and have been to the playoffs 21 times in their history.
The Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers have the best record in NFL history. They have won more Super Bowls than any other team, and they have more Hall of Famers than any other team. They are also the only team to have never had a losing season.
The San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers have the best record in NFL history. They have won five Super Bowls, which is the most of any team. They have also appeared in more conference championship games than any other team.
