Who Has the Biggest Baseball Stadium?
Contents
The title of this blog post is pretty self explanatory. In it, we’ll take a look at the five biggest baseball stadiums in the United States.
America’s Biggest Baseball Stadiums
There are a few contenders for the title of America’s biggest baseball stadium. The Los Angeles Dodgers’ stadium, Dodger Stadium, can seat 56,000 fans. The San Francisco Giants’ stadium, AT&T Park, can seat 41,915 fans. The New York Yankees’ stadium, Yankee Stadium, can seat 52,325 fans.
Fenway Park – Boston, MA
Fenway Park is a baseball park located in Boston, Massachusetts, near Kenmore Square. Since 1912, it has been the home for the Boston Red Sox, the city’s American League baseball team, and since 1953, its only Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise. It is the oldest ballpark in MLB. Because of its age and constrained location within Boston’s dense Fenway–Kenmore neighborhood, the park has been renovated or expanded many times, becoming America’s first modern baseball stadium in 1934.
The seating capacity of Fenway Park is 37,731 people, making it the 28th-smallest among MLB stadiums and the second-smallest among AL stadiums as of 2017. Fenway Park is one of eight Major League ballparks that cannot accommodate 40,000 fans in a normal configuration; others include Wrigley Field ( Cubs), Dodger Stadium (Dodgers), Kauffman Stadium (Royals), Angel Stadium (Angels), Tropicana Field (Rays), Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum (Athletics), and Minute Maid Park (Astros). Thus two future attendees to Fenway Park – one from Denver and another from Houston – will have to find other places to watch their hometown teams play when those teams visit Fenway in 2018.
Wrigley Field – Chicago, IL
Wrigley Field, located on the North Side of Chicago, is the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball. Wrigley Field was built in 1914 and first opened its doors to the public on April 23, 1914. The Chicago Cubs have called Wrigley Field home since 1916.
Wrigley Field has a seating capacity of 41,199 and a field size of 400 feet by 400 feet. Wrigley Field is known for its unique features, such as the manually operated scoreboard, ivy-covered brick outfield walls, and the red marquee over the main entrance.
