The NFL is a league of comebacks. Every team is capable of scoring points in the fourth quarter to seal a victory. But some teams are better at it than others. Who has the most fourth quarter comebacks in the NFL?
Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning has had the most 4th quarter comebacks in the NFL. In fact, he has more than any other quarterback in NFL history. His ability to rally his team and come from behind is truly remarkable.
2001 season
Peyton Manning had nine fourth quarter comebacks in the 2001 season, the most in the NFL that year. He also led the league in touchdown passes (26) and passing yards (4,131).
2008 season
In 2008, Manning started the season strong, winning his first twelve starts. He had a then-record nine 4th quarter comebacks, and set an NFL record by throwing for at least three touchdowns in seven consecutive games. In weeks 11–15, he recorded a passer rating above 115 in each game, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to do so. He also became the first quarterback to throw for over 4,000 yards in fourteen regular season games.
Tom Brady
Tom Brady has the most 4th quarter comebacks in the NFL with 25. He also has the most game-winning drives in the NFL with 54. Brady has led the Patriots to eight Super Bowl appearances, winning five of them.
2013 season
In 2013, Brady surpassed Warren Moon for the most 4th quarter comebacks in NFL history, with 35. Brady accomplished this feat in a come-from-behind win over the Denver Broncos on November 24, 2013. He has throwing for 5,949 yards and touchdown passes in the 4th quarter of his career.
2014 season
In 2014, Brady led the Patriots to a 12-4 record and his eighth consecutive AFC East title. For the season, Brady completed 373 of 582 passes (64.1 percent) for 4,109 yards, 33 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also rushed 37 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns. His passer rating of 96.2 was the second highest of his career.
Eli Manning
Eli Manning has the most 4th quarter comebacks in the NFL. He has led the New York Giants to seven fourth-quarter comebacks in the NFL. Manning has also won two Super Bowls, both of which were come-from-behind victories in the fourth quarter.
2011 season
In 2011, Manning led the Giants to their fifth Super Bowl appearance in franchise history with a 9–7 record. He had one of his best statistical seasons, throwing for 4,933 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Despite being accused of “throwing games” by some fans and analysts after losses to the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles in which he had late fourth quarter interceptions that were returned for touchdowns, he still led seven game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime, the second most in the NFL behind only Drew Brees’ nine. In the NFC Divisional Playoffs against the Atlanta Falcons, he completed 21 of 33 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns, resulting in a 24–2 victory. In the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers, he finished with 316 passing yards and two touchdown passes as the Giants won 20–17 in overtime.
2012 season
In 2012, Manning led the Giants to six fourth-quarter comebacks, which was the most in the NFL that season. The Giants also became the first team in NFL history to win two Super Bowls in five years.
