Wilt Chamberlain
On March 2, 1962, Wilt Chamberlain set the NBA single-game record for most blocks in a game with 17. The previous record was 16, set by Bill Russell of the Boston Celtics. Chamberlain’s record would stand for over 50 years.
100-point game
Wilt Chamberlain holds the record for the most points in a single NBA game with 100. He accomplished this feat on March 2, 1962, while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors against the New York Knicks. Chamberlain’s 100-point game is widely considered one of the greatest achievements in sports history.
Most points in a season
Few players have achieved the level of dominance that Wilt Chamberlain did during his time in the NBA. A 7-foot-1 center who could run like a deer and jump out of the gym, Chamberlain was a physical specimen unlike any the league had ever seen before. He used his otherworldly combination of size, strength, and speed to utterly decimate his competition, piling up points and rebounds at a rate that has never been matched before or since.
In Chamberlain’s rookie season, he averaged 37.6 points and 27.0 rebounds per game, becoming the first player in NBA history to average more than 30 points and 25 rebounds in a season. He would go on to break that record three more times in his career, averaging 50.4 points per game in 1961-62 (a record that still stands today), 48.5 points per game in 1962-63, and 44.8 points per game in 1963-64. His rebounding numbers were just as mind-boggling, as he pulled down 27.2 boards per game in 1960-61 ( another record that stands to this day) and 23.9 rebounds per game in 1961-62.
In addition to setting single-season records for points and rebounds, Chamberlain also holds the NBA record for most points in a single game, having scored 100 points against the New York Knicks in 1962. He also holds the league’s all-time records for most seasons leading the league in scoring (7), most consecutive seasons leading the league in scoring (7), and highest career scoring average (30.1 points per game).
Most rebounds in a season
From 1960 to 1973, Chamberlain played for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He is considered one of the greatest and most dominant players in NBA history. He won two NBA championships, was a five-timeAll-Star, a seven-time member of the All-NBA first team, and an eight-time member of the second team. In 1962 he became the only player in NBA history to be named Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season. He holds numerous other records including: Most points in a season (4,029 in 1961–62), most points in an NBA game (100), most field goals made in an NBA game (36), most free throws made in an NBA game (28), and most rebounds in a season (1,941).
