Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a Greek professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He stands at 6 ft 11 in (2.11 m) tall and plays at the small forward and power forward positions. Born in Athens, Greece to Nigerian parents, Antetokounmpo began playing basketball at age four and soon joined the youth academy of Greek League team Filathlitikos B.C.. He played for Filathlitikos for two years before joining ASK Rethymno of the Greek second division, where he spent a season. After one year with Rethymno, he joined Spanish League team CAI Zaragoza but was later loaned back to Greece to play for lower-tier club Property Value;

In December 2013, the Bucks acquired Antetokounmpo on draft night after he was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets; he became the first ever NBA draftee born and raised in Africa. During his rookie season, he received little playing time and was sent back to play for Milwaukee’s D-League affiliate, the Canton Charge. In his second season with Milwaukee, his minutes increased greatly as he started 46 out of 79 games. He improved several statistical categories during this period; he set career highs in scoring average (12.0 points per game), assists (2.9 per game), rebounds (6.7 per game), blocks (1.4 per game), steals (1.0 per game), triple doubles (one), double doubles (nine), point totals (22 points vs Charlotte Hornets on January 5 2015) and offensive rebounds (tied with three others with four against Philadelphia 76ers on February 23 2015). After Jason Kidd was appointed head coach midway through the 2014–15 season, Antetokounmpo became a focal point of Milwaukee’s offense; often playing as a point forward, he finished 11th in voting for that year’s Most Improved Player Award and was named to that year’s NBA All-Rookie Second Team.

In his third season with Milwaukee, Kidd gave Antetokounmpo increased responsibilities within the team’s offense as well as having him defend opposition centers—a task which saw him lead all small forwards in blocks per game while also coming fourth among all players in defensive win shares. On February 22 2016 against Chicago Bulls, Giannis notched his first career triple double—21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists—in a 109–105 home victory; becoming just the fourth player since 1989 to record a triple double while still being 19 or younger joining LeBron James Chris Paul and Amar’e Stoudemire

The franchise began with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the National Basketball League (NBL). The new team began play in Minneapolis, calling themselves the Minneapolis Lakers. Initially a member of the NBL, the Lakers won the 1948 NBL championship before joining the rival Basketball Association of America, where they would win five of the next six championships, led by star George Mikan. After struggling financially in the late 1950s following Mikan’s retirement, they relocated toLos Angeles before the 1960–61 season.

Led by Hall of Famers Elgin Baylor and Jerry West, Los Angeles made early strides after compiling a 67–15 record in 1966–67. After losing Game 7 of that year’s NBA Finals to their cross-town rivals,the Boston Celtics,[1]the Lakers acquired Chamberlain to join West and Baylor as part-owner Jerry Buss’ first “Big Three”.[2] They won 68 games[3]the next year (a then-record), but were upset in Game 7 again by Boston,[4] despite Chamberlain putting up what many consider one of his finest performances ever (45 points on 22-of-31 shooting, 15 rebounds). Though they defeated Baltimore to win Shaq’s first championship[5]in 2002,[6]the post–Shaq era immediately followed as O’Neal was traded for Marion and Parker two years later.[7][8][9] As aging stars such as Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher tried unsuccessfully to lead a rebuilding roster back into playoff contention amid this retooling from 2006 onwards, major changes included five head coaches between 2006 and 2014,[10][11][12][13][14], trading Gasol for his younger brother Pau,[15]and acquiring Shaq for a second time in 2012.[16]
