The team’s fortunes declined again following that victory, and they would not win another Stanley Cup for more than two decades.

The Canadiens finally ended their championship drought in 1953, when they defeated the Bruins once again to win their sixth Stanley Cup. Led by stars such as Maurice “Rocket” Richard and Jean Beliveau, Montreal went on to win four more Stanley Cups over the next decade. The team’s success continued into the 1970s, when they won two more championships.

Since then, though, the Canadiens have been unable to add to their total of 24 Stanley Cups.
