He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft, and he spent nine seasons with the team.

After starring at Texas Christian University, Tomlinson was drafted fifth overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 2001 NFL Draft. He appeared in nine Pro Bowls, led the league in rushing touchdowns three times, and was the Associated Press’s NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2006. He played for the Chargers from 2001 to 2009, spent one season with the New York Jets in 2010, and retired as a Charger after 11 seasons in the league.
At the time of his retirement, he ranked fifth on the NFL’s all-time rushing list with 13,684 yards. He also ranked second on the all-time list for career rushing touchdowns with 145, behind only Emmitt Smith. He holds several NFL records, including most rushing yards in a single game (243), most touchdowns scored in a single game (28), and most consecutive games with a touchdown (18).
