The title was established under WWE’s then-current developmental territory World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1963 as the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship, with Buddy Rogers becoming the inaugural champion. It became known as the WWF Heavyweight Championship after Rogers won its predecessor,
the World Heavyweight Championship, in a match against Lou Thesz during an episode of WWF’s live television program Tuesday Night Titans on June 3, 1963—making Rogers—and not Thesz—the first undisputed heavyweight champion across all promotions. When the WWWF officially split from its subsidiary National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) in 1971 and changed its name to World Wrestling Federation (WWF), it recognized NWA’s then-current world heavyweight champion Dory Funk Jr. as ESPN has called it “the heaviest championship belt in sports entertainment”. NBC Sports said that it “signaled America’s culture shift from ‘three channels on your TV set’ to ‘ millenium.’ In 2001, it was renamed simply to “World Heavyweight Championship”. In 2002 after being unified with
the WCW World Heavyweight Championship following Vince McMahon’s purchase of WCW, it became referred to by fans as “World Heavyweight” or “WHC” until 2008 when McMahon announced that only one world heavyweight championship would be active within their organization; thus renaming it to “WWE Championship”, which brought about a unified branding of their product under one name: “WWE”. In 2013, following the reintroduction of its former tag team championship the WWE Tag Team Championship on Raw—along with SmackDown creating a separate secondary world title known as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship—Edge revealed that he had wonítialized which led fans to once again refer to it simply as “World Heavyweight”. The title was established as the WWE Championship on October 20, 1952, with Buddy Rogers becoming the inaugural champion. When the brand extension occurred in 2002, it became exclusive to SmackDown and renamed to its current name as a result. The title has had several name changes throughout its history as a direct result of the brand extension, with each corresponding to a period when it was exclusive to either SmackDown or Raw (as opposed to both brands). These periods are referred to as “brands” within wrestling discussions.

The title is one of four world championships in WWE along with the Raw-exclusive WWE Championship and NXT’s two top titles: the NXT Championship and NXT North American Championship – all of which are determined by different riding styles. The WWE United States Championship is a professional wrestling championship contested in the American promotion WWE on the Raw brand. It was originally known as the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship and began its existence as a regional championship within the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). The title has existed under its current name since January 2002, when then-World Wrestling Federation owner Vince McMahon joined forces with the NWA’s successor organization, World Championship Wrestling. As a result of the 2016 brand extension, it became exclusive to Raw. The United States Championship is considered more prestigious than WWE’s secondary titles, such as the Intercontinental and Hardcore Championships.

The WWE Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling world tag team championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE, defended on their Raw, SmackDown, and NXT brands. It is one of the three world titles in the WWE, along with the WWE Universal Championship and the WWE Championship.

The WWE World Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling world tag team championship in WWE. It is contested for by tag teams composed of two wrestlers. WWE Cruiserweight Championship

The WWE Cruiserweight Championship is a professional wrestling championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE on the SmackDown brand. It is currently vacant after WWE Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak was drafted to Raw as part of the 2020 WWE draft.

WWE United Kingdom Championship

The WWE United Kingdom Championship is a professional wrestling championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE. It is defended on WWE’s NXT UK brand, which is available on BT Sport and on the WWE Network in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The inaugural champion was Tommaso Ciampa, who won a tournament at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III to become the first titleholder.

The current champion is Jordan Devlin, who is in his first reign.

WWE European Championship

The WWE European Championship was a professional wrestling championship contested in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was introduced on October 20, 1997 at a Raw is War TV taping in Birmingham, England. A tournament was held to crown the first ever champion which was won by British Bulldog on October 26, 1997. The title was contests on WWE’s primary television programs, Raw is War and SmackDown!. The championship was retired on May 6, 2002.

WWE Intercontinental Championship

The WWE Intercontinental Championship is a professional wrestling championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE on the SmackDown brand. It is one of two secondary titles in WWE, complementing the WWE Universal Championship, which is also on the SmackDown brand. The current champion is Sami Zayn, who is in his first reign.

WWE United Kingdom Championship

The WWE United Kingdom Championship is a professional wrestling championship promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE. It is contested for by male wrestlers who are billed from and residing in the United Kingdom. The inaugural champion was crowned on January 15, 2017, at a tournament held at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, Lancashire, England.

The current champion is WALTER, who is in his first reign. He defeated Pete Dunne on April 7, 2019, at WrestleMania 35 to become champion.
