Who in the NBA Plays Tonight? is a question that is on the minds of many basketball fans. Luckily, we have the answer! Check out our blog post to find out which teams are playing tonight.

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played their home games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland, which is shared with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League. Dan Gilbert has owned the team since March 2005.

The Cavaliers name was chosen by owner Ted Stepien in 1970. The franchise began competition in October that year as an expansion team. Their first game was a road contest against the Atlanta Hawks, which they lost 106–94. The Cavs went on to finish their inaugural season with a record of 15–67. They finished last in every stat category that season except free throw percentage, which they ranked second behind only the Milwaukee Bucks at 74 percent. Dick Snyder was hired as head coach prior to the start of their second season; he replaced Larry Drew after just one game into his maiden campaign. Under Snyder’s leadership, they finished 21–61 and finished last again in every major statistical category; only their free throw percentage increased, rising to 75 percent.[1][2]

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors play the Pelicans tonight in New Orleans. The game starts at 8:00 pm EST.

Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won four Western Conference titles and two NBA championships.

Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The Pacers were first established in 1967 as a member of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and became a member of the NBA in 1976. They play their home games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The team is named after Indiana’s history with the Indianapolis 500’s pace cars and with the harness racing pacers that were common in the state.

Los Angeles Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Clippers were founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers. In 1984, the franchise moved to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and fellowpacific division rivals, the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. The Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, having won 16 NBA championships, their last being in 2010.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies will be playing the Utah Jazz tonight. The game is scheduled to start at 8pm EST and will be televised on ESPN.

Miami Heat

The Miami Heat are an American professional basketball team based in Miami. The Heat compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The team plays its home games at American Airlines Arena, and has won three NBA championships.

The franchise began play in the 1988–89 NBA season as an expansion team. After a period of mediocrity, the Heat would gain relevance during the 1990s following the appointment of former head coach Pat Riley in 1995, who would lead them to nine consecutive playoff appearances, four division titles, two conference championships, and their first NBA championship in 2006. In 2012, after losing in the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron James left the Heat in free agency to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade would remain with the Heat for the next six seasons. Following their maiden championship and quadrennial disappointing exits from the playoffs during the Big Three era, Riley retired as head coach following a nightmarish 60-win season where management failed to surround/replace key players such as Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole with adequate talent; he was succeeded by Erik Spoelstra.

Bosh and Wade would leave in free agency after six years with James leading to an overhaul of the roster including fellow All-Star forward Jimmy Butler via trade; nonetheless, they managed not make it back to The Finals despite James reaching his 10th straight NBA Finals appearance (an unprecedented feat). Just a year later however, Butler would lead them back to The Finals where they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 4-2 for their fourth championship; this gave James his fourth title with four different teams (tying him with Magic Johnson for that feat), which was also his fourth title in eight years (an unprecedented accomplishment).

Milwaukee Bucks

The young Milwaukee Bucks are looking to make a statement early in the season as they take on the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight. After finishing last season with a losing record, the Bucks used their number one draft pick to select point guard phenom Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins has already shown flashes of greatness, and he will be looking to lead his team to victory tonight. The Cavaliers are coming off a tough loss to the Chicago Bulls, and they will be looking to bounce back against the Bucks. This should be a great game between two up-and-coming teams in the NBA.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are an American professional basketball team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Timberwolves compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. Founded in 1989, the team is owned by Glen Taylor who also owns the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. The Timberwolves play their home games at Target Center, their home since 1990.

Like most expansion teams, the Timberwolves struggled in their early years, but after the acquisition of Kevin Garnett in 1995, the team qualified for the playoffs eight consecutive times from 1997 to 2004. Despite losing in the first round in their first seven attempts, the Timberwolves advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history when they defeated the Denver Nuggets 4–1 in 2004. Garnett was also named NBA Most Valuable Player during that season. However, due to injuries and lack of depth, they lost to eventual champions LA Lakers 4–2.

After missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons following a decline after Garnett’s departure to Boston Celtics via trade(), the Wolves returned to playoff contention led by Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns during Flip Saunders’s last year as head coach before his death from Hodgkin lymphoma just days prior at start of 2015–16 regular season where Sam Mitchell was promoted as interim head coach for rest of season. In 2016–17, Minnesotaimproved dramatically but ultimately failed to make playoffs despite having second best record behind Houston Rockets at end of regular season due to being seeded lower than eighth place Portland Trail Blazers despite having better record. After missing playoffs and getting swept out by eventual champion Golden State Warriors in Wester Conference First Round of 2017 NBA playoffs despite having home-court advantage as higher seed with better record, Thibodeau was fired on January 6th, 2019 after compiling a 97-107 (.475) win-loss record during his nearly three full seasons with team and being unable to take team past first round of playoffs despite having one of best defenses during his tenure and being perennial playoff contenders with multiple All-Star players; he was succeeded by Ryan Saunders who became youngest head coach (33 years old) in NBA history.

New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans are an American professional basketball team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Pelicans compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games in the Smoothie King Center.

The Pelicans were established as the New Orleans Hornets in the 2002–03 season when then-owner of the Charlotte Hornets, George Shinn, relocated the franchise to New Orleans. Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the franchise temporarily relocated to Oklahoma City, where they spent two seasons officially known as the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

The team returned to New Orleans full-time for the 2007–08 season. On January 24, 2013, the franchise announced it would rename itself the Pelicans, effective after the conclusion of the 2012–13 season. Their primary logo was adapted from that of Pelican Airlines.

New Orleans has played their home games at Smoothie King Center (formerly known as New Orleans Arena and for corporate naming rights as EnergySolutions Arena) since 2002; it is located adjacent to both Interstate 10 and Girod Street in downtown New Orleans on LeBlanc Street between LaSalle Street and15 Poydras Street.

As of 2019, the franchise has played in the NBA playoffs for exactly half of its existence (14 playoff appearances out of 28 years), and twice reached the NBA Finals (in 1995 and 2009). The team has advanced to the NBA Finals three times, winning the NBA championship once in 1977. Their other NBA Finals appearances came in 1990 and 1992. The team has qualified for the playoffs in 34 seasons of their 46-season existence, including a streak of 21 straight appearances from 1983 through 2003, tied for the second longest streak ever (behind only the Los Angeles Lakers’ 35-year streak). The Trail Blazers have made 17 trips to the Western Conference Finals, 8 trips to the Conference Finals since 1990 (3 times since 2000), and twice to the NBA Finals.

Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings are an American professional basketball team based in Sacramento, California. The Kings compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Western Conference’s Pacific Division. The Kings are the only team in the major professional North American sports leagues located in Sacramento. They play their home games at the Golden 1 Center.
The franchise began as the Rochester Royals, a charter member of the National Basketball League (NBL) created by owner Les Harrison in 1945, that was eventually absorbed by the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which in turn merged with the National Basketball Association after failing to agree to a merger with its rival, the American Basketball Association, in 1948. The Royals defected to the NBL’s rival, the Basketball Association of America, in 1948. In 1957, Harrison struggled to find an arena large enough to accommodate his players and fans and sold his franchise outright to Cincinnati businessmen Harry Graupe and Lawrence F.; Schott for $2 million who then brought it into league with nine other franchises at that time as part of their bid for an NBA expansion franchise which they were subsequently awarded on January 22nd, 1961 as an original franchise along with five other NBL franchises and two ABA franchises that were also approved that day for entry into what would be called simply “The NBA”.
The Royals thus became known as “The Cincinnati Royals” and played their first game against Stewart Chevrolet on October 28th – one day before Magic Johnson was born – winning handily 104–61 behind 33 points from Oscar Robertson who went on to win Rookie of The Year honors that season for what would end up being one of his twelve seasons with Cincinnati where he would be an All-Star all twelve years including leading them to The NBA Finals during his sophomore season where they ultimately lost 4-3 to Boston despite Robertson averaging a triple double throughout The Finals averaging 30 points per game along with 10 assists per game and 12 rebounds per game becoming just one of three rookies all-time – Chamberlain being one of them — to ever average a triple double throughout any playoff series joining Chamberlain and Russell Westbrook who has done it twice; 2010 & 2017; Westbrook incidentally is currently under contract with Oklahoma City until 2023 when he will become an unrestricted free agent.

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. The Spurs compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

The franchise has won NBA championships in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. As of 2019, the Spurs have the sixth-highest winning percentage among all NBA franchises.

Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. The team was founded in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. Since the 2000–01 season, the Raptors have been the only Canadian-based NBA team following the Vancouver Grizzlies’ relocation to Memphis, Tennessee to become the Memphis Grizzlies.[9] They originally played their home games at SkyDome, before moving eastward along Bremner Boulevard to Scotiabank Arena in 1999.[10][11]

The Raptors are owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE), which also owns the Maple Leafs, and they are currently coached by Nick Nurse. The first step in putting together an expansion franchise in Canada was securing a lease for SkyDome (now Rogers Centre), which would serve as home for both teams until both arenas were completed.[12][13] MLSE then put together an ownership group led by Canadian businessman John Bitove for an application fee of $125 million against an expansion fee of $32 million.[1][14] On May 24, 1993, NBA commissioner David Stern announced that Toronto along with Vancouver would be added as its 27th and 28th teams,[15][16] and that Beijing and Copenhagen were under consideration for future expansion decisions.[17]
