The Ravens had a chance to win the game, but their kicker missed a field goal in the final seconds. This is a disappointing end to the season for the Ravens, who were one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium and is headquartered in Owings Mills.
The Ravens were established in 1996, when Art Modell, the owner of the Cleveland Browns, announced his intention to relocate the franchise to Baltimore. As part of a settlement between Modell, the city of Cleveland, and the other NFL owners, Modell was allowed to move the team provided that he would sell the Browns’ name, logos, training facility, and history back to the league for $50 million. The NFL was initially reluctant to grant an expansion franchise to Baltimore because it was feared that another team would need to be located there when theSt. Louis Cardinals moved from St. Louis to Phoenix in 1988; consequently it took legal action against then-NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle and several other owners attempting to stop the move. In return for granting permission to move 832 miles (1,338 km) southeast from Cleveland,[10] an agreement was reached that included free agency for players within two years and $3 million for relocation expenses plus an additional $6 million commitment from Modell over 10 years if attendance remained below 90 percent capacity.[11][12]
The AFC had originally planned on putting another expansion team—the AFC West’s 10th member—in Baltimore.[13] However, when Jack Kent Cooke negotiated a deal with Rozelle whereby he would buy an NFLteam based elsewhere and move them to Washington,[14] Cooke put pressure on other owners who were unwilling to see one of their rivals get stronger by adding an extra team.[15][16] This led all four AFC West teams (the Los Angeles Raiders, Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Seattle Seahawks) filing separate lawsuits against Rozelle[17][18] and eventually reaching a settlement that awarded each of them $3 million apiece.[19][20][21] As part of that settlement softening his stance on Baltimore’s expansion entry,[22] Rozelle eventually grantedModell permission to move his Browns into AFC Central division effective with their 1996 season; five days later he died at age 70 after collapsing during a tennis match near his summer home in Greenwich.[23][24 ] The Ravens organization considers itself indebted to him for giving it life twice; once after their debut season while they were still known as the Browns[25][26]and again after they had relocated from Cleveland “to keep [their fans’] loyalty”.[27 ]
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans are an American football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium.
The Texans were founded in 2002, making them the youngest franchise in the NFL at the time. While their origins trace back to a regional divisional realignment that occurred in 1994 and 1995, the franchise was officially established on October 6, 1999, when then-owner Bob McNair was awarded an NFL expansion franchise to be located in Houston (which was awarded on October 26). The Texans joined the league as part of the 2002 NFL expansion, which followed the addition of the city’s former AFL franchise, the Houston Oilers.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts are an American football team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Colts compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) South division. Since the 2008 season, the Colts have played their home games in Lucas Oil Stadium. Previously, the team had a longstanding venue at the RCA Dome from 1984 to 2007.
