Led by captain Rick Barry and head coach Al Attles, Golden State fell to the defending champion Boston Celtics in seven games. The following season, the Warriors amassed a then-record 73 regular-season wins en route to their second consecutive Western Conference title; however, they lost to eventual champion Phoenix Suns in the 1976 NBA Finals in six games. After another Conference Finals defeat at the hands of eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers in 1977, Golden State finally made it back to the NBA Finals in 1981 behind new head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr., but they lost again in four games to Larry Bird and the Celtics.

The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles in four trips to the NBA Finals since 1994. In 2012, they became the first franchise in NBA history to win more than 50 games in an injury-shortened season.

The Rockets began playing in San Diego, California as part of the American Basketball Association (ABA) where they won championships in 1975 and 1976. They then moved to Houston prior to the start of the 1977 season where they changed their name to the Houston Rockets. After making it to the 1981 NBA Finals, they would not make a return appearance until 1985 where they lost to the Boston Celtics in six games. In 1986, they drafted Hakeem Olajuwon out of University of Houston and duoed him with Ralph Sampson forming one of the most potent frontcourts ever seen which helped lead them back to the NBA Finals in 1986 and 1987 only to fall short both times against their crosstown rivals, the Showtime Lakers led by Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Several years later they paired Olajuwon with Clyde “The Glide” Drexler yielding mixed results but getting back to the 1994 NBA Finals only to lose on Michael Jordan’s infamous “flu game” and again falling short against O’Neal and Kobe Bryant led Shaq-Kobe Lakers threepeat team of 2000-2002

Their playoff history

Founded in 1967, the Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member team of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. Throughout their history, the Rockets have won two NBA championships and four Western Conference titles.

The franchise was established as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego, playing from 1967 to 1971. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston due to poor attendance and financial difficulties. The Rockets won only 15 games their rookie season as a franchise in 1967-68. In 1972–73, after opening with losses, the Rockets won 41 games only to lose to eventual champion New York Knicks in 7 games during the season’s Eastern Conference Semifinals. Despite being picked by then-NBA Commissioner J. Walter Kennedy as one of two expansion teams for 1968-69 along with the Milwaukee Bucks (who eventually became their greatest rivals), both had $1 million expansion fees (a record at that time) and made relatively significant profits thanks to solid fan support on opening night; with arenas already built for them (the Samuel I. Newhouse Sports Complex which was originally going to house both teams and eventually became home court of Seton Hall University’s men’s basketball program) and ticket prices set at $5.50 per game or $11 for a season ticket (equal to $46 or $92 today), each team had a significantly easier path towards profitability compared to most contemporary professional sports franchises which were expanding during that era and beyond.

They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. The Raptors play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Raptors are owned by Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. (MLSE), mapped out in MLSE’s secondary ownership group’stree-like-structure that includes several other groups such as Bell Canada and Rogers Cable.

Founded in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, the Raptors’ home court was originally at SkyDome (also known since 2005 as Rogers Centre), before moving eastward to the Air Canada Centre in 1999. Since their debut, it has been a team100% owned by Canadian businessman Larry Tanenbaum through MLSE, who also owns several other local professional sports teams under its umbrella including Toronto FC of Major League Soccer and the Toronto Maple Leafs of NHL—the latter also serving as co-tenants of Scotiabank Arena with them. Dave Williams coached until December 1995 when he was replaced by Darrell Walker who then lasted for three weeks before being replaced again by Butch Carter on January 3, 1996. Stan Albeck served for parts of two seasons from 1997–98 until eventually resigning due to health reasons on November 20, 1998; he was succeeded by Babcock for one more game before Dick Mandel took over coaching duties on an interim basis for the remainder of that season over Albeck’s disapproval while management conducted a search for Babcock’s long term replacement after clearing him to return to coaching during his illness. In May 1998, Isiah Thomas was hired as general manager and head coach, up until his firing on April 30, 1999 amid controversies surrounding his conduct off court with players and colleagues alike during his brief stint with Indiana Pacers prior to joining Toronto. On June 30 1999 following mandel’s resignation Bob Zuffelato was hired as general manager while keeping Butch carter employed as head coach; Carter would eventually be relieved from his duties on December 3 following a disappointing 8-19 start to the seasonocal product Jay Triano being promoted from assistant coach to replace him becoming not only first Canadian head coach but also first former player for franchise in that role.
