Los Angeles Lakers
Their recent success
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the NBA. They have won the NBA Finals 16 times, more than any other team. They have also made it to the Finals 31 times, also more than any other team. The Lakers have had some great players over the years, including Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. The Lakers are currently coached by Frank Vogel, and they have a star-studded lineup that includes LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Lakers are one of the favorites to win the NBA Finals this year.
Their star players
The Los Angeles Lakers have won the NBA Finals a total of 16 times, and their star players have played a big role in their success. Some of the most famous Lakers players include Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal. These players have not only led the Lakers to victory, but have also become some of the most popular basketball players in the world.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks have the best record in the NBA and have been the most consistent team all season. They have a deep team that can score in a variety of ways and they have the best player in the series in Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Bucks also have the best coach in the series in Mike Budenholzer.
Their recent success
The Milwaukee Bucks are an American professional basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Bucks compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and play at the Fiserv Forum. Former U.S. Senator Herb Kohl was the long-time owner of the team, but on April 16, 2014, a group led by billionaire hedge fund managers Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry agreed to purchase a majority interest in the team from Kohl, a sale which was approved by the NBA Board of Governors on May 16. The new owners declared that their intention was to keep the Bucks in Milwaukee.
In 2015, Forbes listed the Bucks as the 39th most valuable sports franchise in the world, with an estimated value of $675 million. Since their purchase from Kohl, ownership of the Bucks has been among the least stable among NBA franchises; they have had three different owners during Edens and Lasry’s tenure as majority owners (the previous owner having died during their ownership). At one point Lasry threatened to move the then-struggling franchise to another market unless it built a new arena; this eventually resulted in Wisconsin taxpayers footing most of the cost for what is now Fiserv Forum through $250 million worth of bonds supported by state taxpayers plus $47 million from former owner Herb Kohl (above what he paid for his initial purchase).
Their star players
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the obvious star on the Milwaukee Bucks. However, they have several other excellent players that make them a force to be reckoned with.
Khris Middleton is a two-time NBA All-Star and was named the Most Improved Player in 2015. He provides excellent scoring and shooting, and is a solid defender.
Eric Bledsoe is another All-Star caliber player who excels at scoring and playmaking. He’s also a very good defender, and gives the Bucks another big body to throw at opposing teams.
Brook Lopez is a 7-footer who stretches the floor with his three-point shooting. He’s also a very good shot blocker, and gives the Bucks a much needed rim protector.
Other teams
There are many other talented teams in the NBA, but the Golden State Warriors are the clear favorite to win the NBA Finals. They have the best record in the league and are led by two of the best players in the world in Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. Other teams, like the Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors, have a chance to win, but it will be a tough road for them.
The Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Clippers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Clippers were founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, one of three expansion teams to join the NBA that year. The Braves moved from Buffalo, New York to San Diego, California in 1978 and became known as the San Diego Clippers until 1984, when they moved to Los Angeles. Through much of their history, the franchise failed to see significant regular season or playoff success.
The Clippers had been frequent playoff qualifiers through much of their history but never made it beyond the second round of the playoffs until 2012, when they won their first division title since 1976-77 and made it to the Conference Semifinals for the first time since 1993-94. In 2013-14, Los Angeles won 56 games but were eliminated by eventual champion San Antonio in seven games during the Western Conference Semifinals. Since 2000-01, when Bill Wilbon took over as general manager, the team has only reached the playoffs nine times (17% frequency), never making it out of the second round while posting a combined playoff record of 32–38 (.457).
When healthy, they have featured two players ranked among NBA’s top ten scorers; Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Last year they also had one player ranked among NBA’s top ten assists providers; Chris Paul. They also boast a strong bench that contributed heavily during their most recent run to the playoffs. Players such as Jamal Crawford, J.J. Redick and Austin Rivers have played significant roles for this team off the bench over the years
The Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are an American professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won four Western Conference titles.
The team was established as the San Diego Rockets, an expansion team originally based in San Diego, in 1967. In 1971, the Rockets moved to Houston. The Rockets won only 15 games in their debut season as a franchise in 1967. In the 1968 NBA draft, the Rockets, picking first overall, selected power forward Elvin Hayes, who would lead the team to its first playoff appearance in his rookie season. The Rockets did not finish a season with a winning record until the 1976–77 season, when they traded for center Moses Malone. Malone went on to win two NBA Most Valuable Player awards and led Houston to the conference finals in his first year with the team. He also led the Rockets to the NBA Finals in 1981 where they were defeated by Larry Bird’s Boston Celtics; this would be their closest Finals appearance to date.
The Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. The team was established in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada and along with the Vancouver Grizzlies became the NBA’s 27th franchise.
The Raptors had a period of significant success from about 1998 to 2006, making five playoff appearances in that time frame and winning their first division championship in 2006. However, they failed to make the playoffs for five consecutive seasons between 2007 and 2011. Since then, they have been one of the league’s most successful teams; they won five Atlantic Division championships between 2013 and 2018, appearing in three NBA Finals in that span and winning their first NBA championship in 2019.
Who is the favorite to win?
There is no clear-cut favorite to win the NBA Finals this year. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are both strong teams, and it is anyone’s guess as to who will come out on top. The Warriors are the defending champions, and they have a strong lineup featuring Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and Klay Thompson. The Cavaliers have LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. Both teams have experienced players who know how to win in the playoffs. It is going to be a close series, and the winner will be the team that makes the fewest mistakes.
