Who Is In The Baseball World Series?

The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB) and concludes the MLB postseason.

The teams

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the World Series for the third time in four seasons. They’ll face the Tampa Bay Rays, who are in the Fall Classic for the second time and first since 2008.

The American League

The American League of Major League Baseball (AL) is one of two leagues that make up the organization. The other is the National League (NL). Both leagues are considered equal in terms of number of teams, player salaries, and prestige.

The AL consists of 14 teams, divided into two divisions: the East and the West. Five teams play in the Central division, but only four teams play in each of the East and West divisions. The team with the best record in each division automatically qualifies for the playoffs. The next two best teams from either division (or any division, if there is a tie) then compete against each other in a single-elimination playoff game to determine who will face the division winner with the worst record in a best-of-five series.

The AL Champion then plays the NL Champion in the World Series, which is also a best-of-seven series.

The National League

The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, commonly known as the National League (NL), is the older of two leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, and the world’s oldest still existing professional team sports league. Founded on February 2, 1876, to replace the National Association of Base Ball Players (NABBP) of 1871–75,[1] (which itself had succeeded in 1870) the NL is sometimes called the Senior Circuit,[2] in contrast to MLB’s other league, the American League, which was founded 25 years later and is nicknamed the Junior Circuit.[3]

Both leagues currently have 15 teams. After two years of conflict in a “baseball war” that saw regular-season interleague play introduced for the first time since 1903,[4][5] the two leagues reached a peace agreement on November 22, 1997, resulting in Major League Baseball’s reorganization into a single league organization.[6][7] The NLCS has been played every year since 1984. Prior to that, when there were two separate baseball seasons, the NLDS was played in 1981 and 1982.

The players

The 2020 World Series is the 116th edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series. The best-of-seven playoff was played between the American League (AL) champion Tampa Bay Rays and the National League (NL) champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers won the series in six games to capture their first title since 1988.

The American League

The American League of Major League Baseball (MLB) is one of two leagues that make up the sport. The other is the National League. Both leagues are comprised of 15 teams each, and they play against each other during the regular season. At the end of the season, the top team from each league goes on to play in the World Series.

The American League was founded in 1901, and its first season was in 1902. The original eight teams were all located in the northeastern United States. They were: Baltimore Orioles (now the New York Yankees), Boston Americans (now the Boston Red Sox), Chicago White Stockings (now the Chicago White Sox), Cleveland Blues (now the Cleveland Indians), Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers (now the Baltimore Orioles), Philadelphia Athletics, and Washington Senators (now the Minnesota Twins).

Today, all but two of the American League teams are located in the eastern half of the United States, with three teams each in Texas and California. The current American League teams are: Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays ,and Texas Rangers.

The National League

As the winner of the National League Pennant, the Los Angeles Dodgers will face off against the American League Champions, the Boston Red Sox, in the 2018 World Series. The Fall Classic is set to begin on Tuesday, October 23 at Fenway Park in Boston, and will air on Fox.

This will be the first time these two teams have met in the World Series since 1916, when the Red Sox defeated the Brooklyn Robins (now known as the Dodgers) in five games. The Dodgers have not won a World Series since 1988, when they defeated the Oakland Athletics in five games. The Red Sox last won a World Series in 2013, when they defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in six games.

The managers

For the American League, it will be A.J. Hinch of the Astros. Hinch is in his fourth season with Houston, and he has a career record of 461-338. He led the Astros to a 101-61 record this season and was named the AL Manager of the Year. For the National League, it will be Dave Roberts of the Dodgers. Roberts is in his fourth season with Los Angeles, and he has a career record of 362-325. He led the Dodgers to a 106-56 record this season and was named the NL Manager of the Year.

The American League

The National League

This year’s National League managers are Dave Roberts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Craig Counsell of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Roberts, in his fourth year as Dodgers manager, led Los Angeles to a second consecutive World Series appearance. The 47-year-old former big league outfielder is a native of Japan who played for five teams over 10 seasons from 1999-2008. He managed in the minor leagues for four seasons before being hired by the Dodgers in 2016.

Counsell, 49, is in his fifth season as Brewers manager. He guided Milwaukee to its first division title since 2011 and its first NL pennant since 1982. Counsell, a native of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, played 16 seasons in the majors for six teams from 1995-2010 and was a member of the 1997 World Series champion Florida Marlins.

The stadiums

Wrigley Field and Fenway Park are the two most iconic stadiums in baseball. They’re also the homes of the two teams in the World Series: the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox. Wrigley Field is the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, and Fenway Park is the smallest.

The American League

Since then, three more teams have joined the American League: the Seattle Mariners (1977), Tampa Bay Rays (1998) and Toronto Blue Jays (1977).

The American League has been home to some of baseball’s greatest players, including Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki. The league has also seen its share of iconic moments, from Lou Gehrig’s “Luckiest Man” speech to Cal Ripken Jr.’s record-breaking 2,131st consecutive game played.

The American League is currently dominated by the Yankees, who have won 27 World Series titles. The Yankees’ chief rivals are the Red Sox and Rays in the AL East; the Indians in the AL Central; and the Astros in the AL West.

The National League

In baseball, the National League (NL) is one of two leagues that make up Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada. Founded in 1876, the NL is older than its American counterpart, the American League (AL), which was founded in 1901. Both leagues currently have 15 teams. Each team in each league plays 162 games during the regular season.
