The Major League Baseball playoffs are an elimination tournament held after the conclusion of the MLB regular season.
American League
The American League playoff race is down to the wire. The Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and Minnesota Twins are all within two games of each other, battling it out for the two Wild Card spots. While the Astros have been the best team in baseball all season long, the Yankees and Twins both have strong records and are more than capable of making a deep run in the playoffs.
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City; the other club is the National League (NL)’s New York Mets. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the modern Baltimore Orioles). In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise after it ceased operations and moved it to New York City, renaming the club the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed the Yankees in 1913.
Minnesota Twins
The Twins have not yet clinched their spot in the playoffs, but they are in the lead for the American League Central division title. As of September 23, 2019, they have a record of 101-57. If they win their division, they will face either the Houston Astros or the Oakland Athletics in the American League Division Series.

The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas. The Astros compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division, having moved to the division in 2013 after spending their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL).
Tampa Bay Rays

National League
In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and Colorado Rockies have clinched their division titles and are in the playoffs. The Atlanta Braves have clinched a wild card spot and are also in the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are an American professional baseball team based in Los Angeles, California. The Dodgers compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. Established in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York, the team moved to Los Angeles before the 1958 season. They played four seasons at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before moving to Dodger Stadium in 1962.

Atlanta Braves
As the National League’s top team in the regular season, the Atlanta Braves have home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs. They will host Game 1 of the NLDS on Thursday, October 3 against either the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers or Washington Nationals.
St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals are an American professional baseball team based in St. Louis, Missouri. The Cardinals compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) Central division. Busch Stadium has been their home ballpark since 2006.
