How they made it to the finals

The Miami Heat are an American professional basketball team based in Miami. The Heat compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. They play their home games at American Airlines Arena, and have won three NBA championships.

The franchise began play in 1988 as an expansion team, where they qualified for the playoffs in their first season. However, they failed to win a playoff series until they acquired center Alonzo Mourning in 1995. Following his arrival, theHeat won eight division titles between 1997 and 2005. In 2006, the team signed Dwyane Wade as a free agent, which helped lead to their first championship that same year; Wade was named NBA Finals MVP. After losing in the 2007 NBA Finals, they bounced back and won their second title in 2012 with help from newly acquired All-Star forward LeBron James, who was named NBA Finals MVP after leading Miami to a 4–2 series win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. After winning again in 2013, their streak of three consecutive championships came to an end with a loss to the San Antonio Spurs in 2014; James later left the Heat for Cleveland that offseason.

In 2019–20, Jimmy Butler led the team to its sixth division title and fourth Eastern Conference championship before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games during the 2020 NBA Finals; Butler was named NBA Finals MVP despite his team’s loss.

The Finals Schedule

Games 1 and 2 will be played at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 30 and Friday, October 2, respectively. If necessary, Games 6 and 7 will be played at the same venue on Tuesday, October 13 and Thursday, October 15. All games will begin at 9 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on ABC. The Los Angeles Lakers are the defending champions.

Game 1

The 2020 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2019–20 season and conclusion of the season’s playoffs. In the Finals, the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat in six games, winning their record-tying 17th NBA championship. Lakers forward LeBron James was named Finals MVP for a record-tying fourth time, joining Jerry West, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal. The series was played under NBA bubble circumstances inside Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Bay Lake, Florida near Orlando.

This matchup is a repeat of the 2006, 2007, 2008 NBA Finals, with LeBron James then playing for the Heat and Anthony Davis playing for the Lakers. This also marks only the second time in Finals history that teams from the same state will face off against each other (the other instance being when Brooklyn and New York City competed in 1953).

Game 2

The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Friday, October 2. The game is set to tip off at 9 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ABC.

This is a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, which the Lakers won in six games. The Lakers are looking to repeat as champions, while the Heat are looking to avenge their loss and win their first title since 2006.

The Lakers are coming into this game after winning Game 1 of the series, 116-98. Anthony Davis led the way for the Lakers with 34 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while LeBron James had 25 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists.
