The NFC

The NFL playoffs are in full swing and the NFC is wide open. There are a few teams that have been eliminated, but there are still plenty of teams left in the running. Let’s take a look at who is left in the NFC.

The Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.

The Packers are the last vestige of small town teams playing professional football. The Packers organization is unique in many ways, but perhaps most notable is their ownership structure. Unlike most professional sports teams which are owned by an individual, corporation or partnership, the Packers are owned by 360,000 public stockholders. The team is also the only non-profit major league professional sports team in the United States.

In addition to their unusual ownership structure, the Packers have a long and storied history. The team was founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun with support from the Indian Packing Company (hence the name “Packers”). From 1921-1949, the Packers were a charter member of the NFL and won 6 championships, including 3 straight from 1929-1931. In total, the Packers have won 13 championships, more than any other team in NFL history.

The Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football team based in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. They joined the NFL in 1976 as an expansion team, along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Saints currently compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) South division. The team was founded by John W. Mecom Jr., David Dixon, and the city of New Orleans on November 1, 1966.

The Saints began play in Tulane Stadium in 1967. They posted a 13–2 record during their inaugural season, eventually finishing first in the Western Conference, but lost to the eventual NFL champion Green Bay Packers in the first round of the playoffs. In 1970, they moved to Louisiana Superdome (now theMercedes-Benz Superdome), which became their home field for 31 seasons. They qualified for five playoffs during that span, including a stretch of four consecutive appearances from 1987 to 1990.

Since then, they have made only two postseason trips: following the 1990 and 2013 seasons. They have never reached or won aSuper Bowl; however they did win Super Bowl XLIV 31–17 over NFC South rival Indianapolis Colts following the 2009 season, becoming just the second Wild Card playoff team to do so since 1975 (and just the third overall since 1967).

The Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts, which is located 28 miles (45 km) southwest of downtown Boston.

The Patriots are also headquartered at Gillette Stadium. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the AFL–NFL merger in 1970. As of 2019, Belichick has 27 playoff wins, which ranks him fourth all-time among head coaches; he is first among head coaches who have never lost a playoff game. Additionally, all four of Belichick’s Super Bowl victories occurred when defensive coordinator Matt Patricia was on staff; Patricia is currently head coach for the Detroit Lions. Wide receiver Julian Edelman has been named Super Bowl MVP twice, while running back James White holds Super Bowl records for most receptions (14) and receiving yards by a running back (139).

The Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to take on the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional playoffs this weekend. The Chiefs come into the game with a strong 11-5 record, while the Patriots are 13-3. The Patriots are favored to win by three points, but the Chiefs will be looking to upset them and advance to the AFC Championship game.

The Chiefs offense is led by quarterback Alex Smith, who has thrown for 3,502 yards and 28 touchdowns this season. Running back Kareem Hunt has also been a big part of the offense, rushing for 1,327 yards and eight touchdowns. The Chiefs will need to be at their best if they want to beat the Patriots and advance in the playoffs.

The Houston Texans

The Houston Texans are a professional football team based in Houston, Texas. The Texans compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) South division. The team plays its home games at NRG Stadium.

The Texans were established in 2002 as the Houston Texans expansion team, and played their first regular season game in September 2002. The team’s owner is Bob McNair. The general manager is Brian Gaine, and the head coach is Bill O’Brien.

Seeded fourth in the AFC Playoffs, the Texans defeated the Buffalo Bills 22-19 in overtime in the Wild Card round, but were defeated by the eventual Super Bowl LIII champion New England Patriots 41-28 in the Divisional round.
