Contents
The NFL season is in full swing and the race to be the number one team is heating up. Who is currently sitting atop the standings?
The NFL’s Top Teams
Coming into the 2020 NFL season, there are a few teams that look like they could be the top team in the league. The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions and they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Patrick Mahomes. The Baltimore Ravens have a strong defense and they led the league in points scored last season. The San Francisco 49ers are also a team to watch out for, as they made it to the Super Bowl last season.
The New England Patriots
The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston area. The Patriots compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s American Football Conference (AFC) East division. The team plays its home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, which serves as the headquarters for both the Patriots and the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MLS).
The Patriots are also headquartered at Patriot Place, an outdoor shopping and entertainment complex located adjacent to Gillette Stadium. The Patriots have appeared in ten Super Bowls since 2001, winning seven of them. The franchise has since set numerous notable records, including most wins in a ten-year period (126, from 2010 to 2019), an undefeated 16-game regular season in 2007, and the longest winning streak consisting of regular season and playoff games in NFL history (21 games, from October 2003 to October 2004).
The Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.
The Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys are a professional American football team based in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. The Cowboys compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) East division. The team is headquartered in Frisco, Texas, and plays its home games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which opened for the 2009 season. The stadium took the place of the now-demolished Texas Stadium, which served as the Cowboys’ home stadium from 1971–2008.
The Cowboys joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1960. The team’s national following might best be represented by its NFL record of consecutive sell-outs. The Cowboys’ streak of 190 consecutive sold-out regular and postseason games began in 2002. The franchise has made it to the Super Bowl eight times, tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos for second most Super Bowl appearances in history, behind only the New England Patriots’ ten appearances. This has also corresponded to eight NFC championships, most in the NFC.[13] In 2015, Forbes estimated the value of the Cowboys to be $4 billion,[14] making them one of the most valuable sports franchises in history.
