The National Football League (NFL) playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the regular season to determine the NFL champion. Seven teams from each of the league’s two conferences qualify for the playoffs. A single-elimination playoff game is held between the two division winners from each conference as well as two “wild-card” teams from each conference (the three non-winners with the best won-lost records). The two surviving teams from each conference’s divisional playoff games then meet in the respective AFC and NFC Conference Championship games, with the winners of those games advancing to the Super Bowl, the league’s ultimate championship game.

The AFC Playoffs

The AFC playoffs are underway, and there are some great match-ups taking place. In the first game, the Kansas City Chiefs are taking on the Houston Texans. The Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions, and they are looking to defend their title. The Texans are a strong team, and they are looking to upset the Chiefs.

The AFC Wild Card Game: Colts vs. Texans

The AFC Wild Card Game will feature the Indianapolis Colts (10-6) taking on the Houston Texans (11-5). The game will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, and is scheduled to kick off at 4:35 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 5.

The Colts are led by quarterback Andrew Luck, who threw for 4,593 yards and 39 touchdowns during the regular season. Indianapolis’ top receiver is T.Y. Hilton, who had 1,270 yards and six touchdowns on the year. On defense, the Colts will look to contain Texans stars DeAndre Hopkins and Lamar Miller.

Houston’s offense is spearheaded by quarterback Deshaun Watson, who threw for more than 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns in his rookie season. The Texans also boast one of the best defenses in the NFL, led by edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney.

The winner of this game will advance to take on the top-seeded Kansas City Chiefs (12-4) in the AFC Divisional Round next weekend.

The AFC Divisional Round: Ravens vs. Chargers

After taking care of business in the Wild Card round, the Ravens will travel to face the Los Angeles Chargers in the Divisional Round. This will be a rematch of a Week 16 game that saw Baltimore come out on top, 22-10.

Lamar Jackson was sensational in his first career start in that game, rushing for 95 yards and a touchdown while also throwing for 204 yards and another score. The Ravens will need him to be at his best again if they want to advance to the AFC Championship game.

The Chargers, on the other hand, will be looking to avenge that loss and send the Ravens packing. They’ll have their work cut out for them, though, as Baltimore has been one of the hottest teams in the NFL over the past month or so.

Six teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs. This year, the Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks will be playing in the NFC playoffs.

The NFC Wild Card Game: Seahawks vs. Cowboys

The NFC Wild Card Game features the Seattle Seahawks squaring off against the Dallas Cowboys. This game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, January 5th at 4:40pm EST.

The NFC Divisional Round: Rams vs. Saints

The NFC Divisional Round features a battle of NFC titans, as the Rams take on the Saints. These two teams met back in Week 9, with the Rams coming out on top, 45-35. The Rams have been one of the best teams in the NFL all season long, thanks in large part to their explosive offense. Led by quarterback Jared Goff and running back Todd Gurley, the Rams averaged a whopping 32.9 points per game during the regular season, which was good for second in the NFL. The Saints, on the other hand, were just a hair behind the Rams, averaging 31.5 points per game.
