A prep-to-pro, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003 as the first overall draft pick. Golden State Warriors

From 1995 to 2019, the Warriors won five NBA Championships (1947, 1956, 1975, 2015, 2017), and became the first team in NBA history to win four championships in five seasons. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers, often referred to as the Cavs, are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavs compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played home games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in downtown Cleveland, which is shared with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League. Dan Gilbert has owned the team since March 2005.

The Cavaliers opened their inaugural season losing their first 15 games and struggled in their early years, placing last in the Eastern Conference during five of their first seven seasons. They won their first Central Division title in 1976 and reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 1976 and 1977; however were swept both times by the Golden State Warriors. The franchise won its first Eastern Conference championship in 1980 behind Hall of Famer Willis Reed, but was swept again by Golden State in four games after injuries to Reed and point guard Micheal Ray Richardson forced them to miss game four.[4][5] Overall, they have won five Central Division titles (1976, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016), three Eastern Conference titles (2007, 2015, 2016), one NBA title (2016), and have reached nine NBA Finals appearances (1976, 1977 ,2007 ,2015 ,2016 ,2017 ,2018 ,2019 ,2020 ).

The Cavaliers began rebuilding immediately after James’ departure to sign with Los Angeles Lakers in free agency helmed by former lottery pick Koby Altman who constructed a young core led by All-Star power forward Kevin Love while adding key role players like veteran shooter Kyle Korver via trade during his first offseason as general manager.[6][7] After missing out on signing All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard during free agency due to salary cap restraints,[8] Altman executed a three-team deal that landed sharpshooting small forward Kevin Porter Jr., then pulled off a surprise trade for former MVP point guard Derrick Rose on draft night.[9][10] These deals helped lay a new foundation for a young Cavaliers squad that revolved around rising stars like Sexton and Porter Jr., as well as third-year big man Collin Sexton.[11] The team would also sign free agent center Andre Drummond to a two-year contract during midseason.[12][13]
