The 76ers have had a rich history, with many of the greatest players in NBA history having played for the organization, including Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Charles Barkley, and Allen Iverson. They have won three NBA championships, with their first coming as the Syracuse Nationals in 1955. The second title came in 1967, after moving to Philadelphia, led by Hall of Famers Billy Cunningham and Wilt Chamberlain. The third title came in 1983, led by Erving and Malone. They have only been back to the NBA Finals once since then: in 2001, led by Iverson they beat the Los Angeles Lakers 4-1 to win their fourth championship. For seven consecutive years starting in 2014–15 season, they failed to make playoffs and hold longest playoff drought now(as of 2020). They finally clinched a playoff berth on August 13th 2020 after defeating rivals Toronto Raptors 112-106 behind a game winning shot from Matisse Thybulle which made them end their five year playoff drought and got back to playoffs for first time since 2012 . Their rivalry with New York Knicks is one of oldest rivalries currently running between two teams till date .it all started when Sixers won 1955 NBA title ,which Knicks didn’t like because it was Knicks who were best team at that time with absolute star studded lineup having players like Harry Gallatin ,Vinnie Richards , Sweetwater Clifton ,Dick McGuire etc but couldn’t get past Nationals (later Sixers) in finals despite being better team on paper that year which resulted into huge rivalry between these two teams which is still alive today
