Who Is Playing Tonight in the Major League Baseball Playoffs?

American League

The American League playoff game tonight is between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees. The game is set to start at 8:08 PM EST and will be televised on ESPN. The Astros are currently leading the best of seven series, two games to none.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox are an American professional baseball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. The Red Sox have won nine World Series championships, tied for second-most of any MLB team, and they are the most successful franchise to date in the history of New York City. Founded in 1901 as one of the American League’s eight charter franchises, the Red Sox’ home ballpark has been Fenway Park since 1912. The “Red Sox” name was chosen by the team owner, John I. Taylor, circa 1908, following previous use of red stockings by the National League’s Cincinnati Reds and Boston Braves.

Houston Astros

The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas. The Astros compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) West division, having moved to the division in 2013 after spending their first 51 seasons in the National League (NL). The Astros have played their home games at Minute Maid Park since 2000. The team’s chronological history can be traced back to the original Houston Colt .45s expansion franchise which began play in 1962 as a member of the NL in Houston’s Colt Stadium, which was also home to the NFL’s Houston Oilers from 1960 to 1964.

In 1965, the team moved to the Astrodome, becoming the first team in MLB history to play indoors; this necessitated changing their name to the Astros due to that facility’s air-conditioned dome. Upon theAstros’ move to Minute Maid Park in 2000, they became one of only two current MLB franchises—the other being the Seattle Mariners—to have played a majority of their home games in three separate home ball parks; besides playing at Colt Stadium and inside the Astrodome, Minute Maid Park is also adjacent to Union Station. While all three venues were located within Houston city limits, Minute Maid Park lies outside them.

An ownership change during this time period brought about Major League Baseball’s first female owner—theHistoric Whitman family which had purchased the franchise from Judge Roy Hofheinz earlier. In 2004, new ownership led by managementexecutives Drayton McLane, Jr., Reid Ryan and Jim Crane took over; McLane then brought forth significant changes within both on and off-field operations. Under McLane’s stewardship as Chairman & CEO from 2011 until his sale of the franchise to Jim Crane at its December 2011 meeting, Minute Maid Park underwent $106 million in renovations which included complete reconstruction of all seating areas behind home plate and construction of new suites and clubhouses throughout much of upper stadium levels. In addition, several significant changes were made to baseball operations under his watch including hiring Ed Wade as General Manager ahead of 2006 season.

Cleveland Indians

The Cleveland Indians are a professional baseball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Indians compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division. Since 1994, they have played their home games at Progressive Field. The team’s spring training facility is at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona. Since their establishment as a major league franchise in 1901, the Indians have won two World Series championships: in 1920 and 1948, along with 10 Central Division titles and six American League pennants.

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are an American professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City, that competes in Major League Baseball (MLB). They are one of the eight teams that play in the American League’s East Division.

They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. They played four seasons at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before moving to Dodger Stadium, their current home, in 1962.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are an American professional baseball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) Central division. The team is named for the city’s association with the brewing industry. Since 2001, the Brewers have played their home games at Miller Park, which has a seating capacity of 41,900.

The team was founded in 1969 as the Seattle Pilots, an expansion team of the American League (AL), but relocated to Milwaukee in 1970 and became known as the Brewers. In 1998, the Brewers joined the National League. They are also one of only two Major League Baseball teams to switch leagues in their history, doing so in 1998 with their move from the AL Central to the NL Central; when MLB realigned its divisions prior to 2013, they switched from being a part of the NL Central to being a part of MLB’s new National League Divisional Series; since then they have made it to Elimination Sunday 3 times: 2008 (when they lost to eventual World Series Champion Philadelphia), 2011 (when they lost to eventual World Series Champion St Louis), and 2018 (when they beat Colorado but then were swept by Los Angeles). As of 2018, they have appeared in one World Series, losing to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982.

Colorado Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are an American professional baseball team based in Denver, Colorado. The Rockies compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. The team’s home ballpark is Coors Field, located in the Lower Downtown area of Denver.
