Who is playing?
The Los Angeles Lakers are set to take on the Portland Trail Blazers in the opening game of the season. Both teams are expected to field strong lineups, but the Trail Blazers will be without one of their key players.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are an American professional basketball team based in Los Angeles. The Lakers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Pacific Division. The Lakers play their home games at Staples Center, an arena shared with the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers, the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association, and the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League. The Lakers are one of the most successful teams in the history of the NBA, and have won 16 NBA championships, their last being in 2010.
Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are an American professional basketball team based in Miami. The Heat compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division. The Heat play their home games at American Airlines Arena, and have won three NBA championships.
The franchise began play in 1988 as an expansion team, where after a period of mediocrity, the Heat would gain relevance during the 1990s following the appointment of former head coach Pat Riley in 1996, who would lead them to acquire center Alonzo Mourning in 1997. Riley would be instrumental in leading the team to acquire point guard Tim Hardaway in 1996, which formed one of the most potent fast breaks duos of all-time, as well as guard Dwyane Wade in 2003. The Heat experienced a decade of success after acquiring Shaquille O’Neal as center in 2004, winning their first ever championship that same year followed by two more titles in 2006 and 2012. After O’Neal’s departure, the team entered into another period of rebuilding.
The roster currently features quite a few injuries including: Goran Dragic (knee), Dion Waiters (ankle), James Johnson (hernia surgery), and Kelly Olynyk (shoulder). Tyler Johnson is doubtful with a left quad contusion. As for who is playing tonight against the Charlotte Hornets, these are your starters:
Point Guard: Josh Richardson
Shooting Guard: Dwyane Wade
Small Forward: Justise Winslow
Power Forward: Hassan Whiteside
Center: Bam Adebayo
Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are an American professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, the team played its home games at Boston Garden from 1946 to 1995. Upon the departure of star player Larry Bird in 1992, the franchise underwent a rebuilding process that lasted more than a decade. The Celtics returned to prominence in 2008 with the acquisition of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. The duo, along with Paul Pierce, helped lead the Celtics to nine NBA Finals appearances from 2008 to 2013, winning seven of them.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder are an American professional basketball team based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Thunder compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Northwest Division. The team plays its home games at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Thunder were previously known as the Seattle SuperSonics, an American professional basketball team that existed from 1967 to 2008. After the 2007–08 season ended, the team relocated from Seattle to Oklahoma City, and became known as the Thunder.

What are the odds?
The Los Angeles Lakers are scheduled to play the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night. As of right now, the Lakers are scheduled to start Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Danny Green, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and JaVale McGee. The Portland Trail Blazers are scheduled to start Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Carmelo Anthony, Hassan Whiteside, and Anfernee Simons.
Los Angeles Lakers (-5.5)
The Los Angeles Lakers are a 5.5 point favorite against the Sacramento Kings tonight. The Kings are coming off a tough loss to the Toronto Raptors, while the Lakers are coming off a win against the Detroit Pistons. The Lakers are currently on a three game winning streak, while the Kings have lost four of their last five games.
Miami Heat (+5.5)
The Miami Heat are facing the Boston Celtics tonight in a matchup of two of the best teams in the NBA. The Celtics are currently 5.5-point favorites, meaning they would need to win by at least six points for bettors who take them to cover the spread.
The Heat are one of the best teams in the league against the spread, going 33-22-1 on the season. That includes a 20-10-1 record when they are listed as underdogs, like they are tonight.
The Celtics have also been a good bet this season, going 34-21 against the spread. They are just 14-16 ATS when listed as favorites, however, so bettors may want to think twice before taking them tonight.
What is the over/under?
The Los Angeles Lakers are set to take on the Indiana Pacers tonight in what should be a high-scoring affair. Both teams have plenty of firepower on offense, and the game has an over/under of 234.5 points. Who do you think will win?
216.5
The over/under is a figure set by oddsmakers that serves as a guideline for bettors looking to wager on the combined point total of two opposing teams in a given game. Simply put, if you think the final score will add up to more than the over/under, you would bet the over. Likewise, if you think the final score will add up to less than the over/under, you would bet the under.
For example: Let’s say oddsmakers set the over/under for a particular game at 216.5 points. If you bet the over and the final score of the game ends up being 217-21 (218 points), then you would win your bet. However, if the final score is 208-209 (207 points), then you would lose your bet.
