Who Is Still In The NBA Playoffs?
Contents
The NBA playoffs are in full swing and we’re down to the final four teams. Who is still in the running for the NBA championship?
Eastern Conference
The Boston Celtics and the Toronto Raptors are set to face off in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Celtics have been dominant in the playoffs so far, while the Raptors have had to fight tooth-and-nail for every win. It should be a great series.
Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics are an American professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. The Celtics compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Founded in 1946 as one of the league’s original eight teams, the team play their home games at TD Garden, which they share with the National Hockey League (NHL)’s Boston Bruins. The Celtics are one of the most successful teams in NBA history; they have won the most championships of any franchise in the NBA with 17, accounting for 24.6 percent of all NBA championships since the league’s founding in 1947.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Cavaliers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Eastern Conference Central Division. The team began play as an expansion team in 1970, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and Buffalo Braves. Home games were first held at Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, followed by the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavs have played their home games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland, which is shared with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League. Dan Gilbert has owned the team since March 2005.
The Cavaliers began play in the 1970–71 NBA season under head coach Bill Fitch, who was fired after a losing record during his only season with the expansion Cavs. After a promising start from backup point guard Lowell distinctively leading seven rookies, they finished 15–67, setting an NBA record for losses in a season. The 1971–72 season saw the installment of Chuck Daly as head coach, who led them to a winning record for almost all of his tenure despite some early struggles, and led by forward/center Walt Bellamy and guard Jim Chones averaged 101 points per game, which was panegyrized by then-NBA Commissioner J. Walter Kennedy as “the most exciting thing to happen in professional basketball in years.” They were swept out of that year’s playoffs by eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks led by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson.
Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Raptors compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. They play their home games at the Scotiabank Arena, which they share with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs. They are one of two NBA teams located outside the United States.
The Raptors were established in 1995 as part of the NBA’s expansion into Canada, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies. Since then, they have been one of the most successful teams in the NBA, winning five Division titles and two Conference championships. However, they have never won an NBA championship, which is something they are look to change this season.
The Raptors are currently second in the Eastern Conference with a 48-18 record. They have clinched a playoff berth and are looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Western Conference
The Western Conference is still ongoing in the NBA playoffs. As of now, the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors are in the lead.
Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets are a professional basketball team based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA), as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The Rockets have won four Western Conference titles.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are currently the most dominant team in the NBA. They have won 3 championships in the past 4 years, and they show no signs of slowing down. They have a star-studded lineup that features 2 of the best shooters in NBA history in Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. They also have one of the best defensive players in the league in Draymond Green, and a versatile big man in Kevin Durant who can score from anywhere on the court. The Warriors are looking like they could potentially go undefeated in the playoffs, and they are definitely the team to beat in the Western Conference.
San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. The Spurs compete in the National Basketball Association as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays its home games at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.
