Early life and career
Sting, whose real name is Steve Borden, was born in Omaha, Nebraska on March 20, 1959. He began his professional wrestling career in 1985, and by the late 1980s he was one of the most popular wrestlers in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). In 1991, he joined World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he became one of the company’s top stars. He wrestled for WCW until 2001, when he left the company after it was purchased by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
In 2014, Sting made his WWE debut, and he has since participated in several high-profile matches. He is a two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion and a WWE Hall of Famer.

Borden was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended Westside High School and played football and basketball. After graduation, he worked various jobs including construction, oilfield work and bodyguard for nightclubs. Borden began wrestling in 1986 as “Flash” Gorden in Power Team USA. In 1987, he joined Power Team USA’s rival faction, the Blade Runners. In 1988, Borden debuted as “Sting” in the UWF after Jim Herd rejected the name “Flash”. Borden eventually turned heel in 1989 and formed the tag team Pretty Wonderful with Kevin Sullivan.
In 1991, Sting joined WCW and became one of its most popular stars. He feuded with Ric Flair for much of 1992 and defeated him for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship at Starrcade 1992. Sting held the title for over six months before losing it to Big Van Vader at SuperBrawl III in 1993. He regained the title from Vader at Halloween Havoc later that year and held it until losing to Hollywood Hulk Hogan at Bash at the Beach 1994. Sting then took a hiatus from WCW to heal from nagging injuries.
In 1996, Sting made his triumphant return to WCW at Uncensored 1996 by attacking Hulk Hogan. This led to a feud between the two which culminated in a match at Starrcade 1997 which Sting won. In 1998, Sting cashed in his “Insurance Policy” (a contract guaranteeing him a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match) and defeated The Giant for the title at SuperBrawl VIII. He lost the title to Diamond Dallas Page at Halloween Havoc later that year but won it back from him at Starrcade 1999 after Page was injured by Goldberg.
Sting vacated the title due to injury in 2000 and took another hiatus from WCW. In 2001, he made his final appearance for WCW on an episode of Nitro before signing with WWE in January 2014.

He then wrestled for various promotions on the Texas independent circuit throughout 1985 and 1986 before being recruited by Bill Watts to join his Mid-South Wrestling (now known as Universal Wrestling Federation) territory in 1986. In Mid-South / UWF, Sting formed The Blade Runners stable with Lex Luger and Ricky Morton; however, Luger left UWF by the end of 1986 to join Jim Crockett Promotions’ World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Sting then feuded with Richard Seal for several months before teaming up with Eddie Gilbert as The Lightning Express to win the Central States Tag Team Championship from Larry Zbyszko & Tito Santana at UWF Fury Hour on May 3, 1987.”

Throughout his career, Sting has won 17 championships. He is a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, a record 11-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion, a one-time United States Heavyweight Champion, a one-time WCW International World Heavyweight Champion, and a one-time WCW World Tag Team Champion. He is also the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame inductee.
