The Best NFL Teams
Every NFL season, there are a few teams that stand out above the rest. These are the teams that have the best records, the best players, and the most fan support. But who is the best NFL team of all time?
The Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) North division. It is the third-oldest franchise in the NFL, dating back to 1919, and is the only non-profit, community-owned major league professional sports team based in the United States. Home games have been played at Lambeau Field since 1957.
The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1920–1930. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1919 and 1920, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Michigan, before joining the American Professional Football Association (APFA), now known as the NFL, in 1921. Although Green Bay is by far its largest city, Lambeau Field is located in a small town about 100 miles north of Milwaukee, where it was originally built for high school football games on land donated by a local lumber company.
The Packers have won 13 league championships (nine NFL Championships and four Super Bowls), more than any other team in NFL history; with their first being their joinery championship season of 1929. They also won six conference championships and nine divisional championships between 1938 and 1967. The team has retired four players’ jerseys: Tony Canadeo (#3),Don Hutson (#14), Bart Starr (#15) and Ray Nitschke (#66); all members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame considered amongst the greatest players ever to play for them. The Packers hold NFL records for the most regular season victories (765), most consecutive road games won across all seasons (37) and most consecutive wins overall (1933–34). They have played over one thousand games since their founding; more than any other team playing today with eight hundred ninety-six wins against five hundred eighteen losses for winning seventy percent of those contests as of 2020. Between 1921–present they have appeared twenty times within NFL playoffs and have won fourteen divisional championships along twelve conference titles while earning thirty pro bowl selections between 1938–67; achieving fourteen perfect regular seasons along an undefeated campaign en route to winning Super Bowl I; being proclaimed as superbowl champions after winning Super Bowl II; securing three straight titles between 1965–67 which remains unmatched to this day including having two winning streaks exceeding over fifty consecutive wins falling just two shy respectively behind their own league record set during that timeframe (1941/42–44/45) while also becoming only one of two franchises ever to repeat as champions more than once during that span with five total league crowns between 1961–67 equaled only by fellow western conference foe Baltimore Colts who accomplished same joining them as only repeated triple champions within that decade while claiming five conference titles apiece falling just behind Cleveland Browns who had six interconference triumphs respectively ending that era; earning thirteen total league championships eclipses second place Pittsburgh Steelers who trail them by six having seven total wins followed by San Francisco 49ers & New York Giants tied for third place with five apiece respectively; leading second place Pittsburgh Steelers & New York Giants by eight games for most regular season victories all time; leading second place Chicago Bears by seven & Miami Dolphins by thirteen for most consecutive road wins all time including besting Chicago’s prior record set from 1941/42–44/45 era mentioned earlier by one game & Dolphins’ prior record from 1972/73–74/75 era mentioned earlier set en route to winning Super Bowl I also mentioned earlier matching them respectively while eclipsing premerger record shared by three teams & besting postmerger shared mark held exclusively then jointly before being surpassed during mid 2000s decade held solely then jointly before finally being broken outright during 2010s decade currently shared again now exclusively before both eventually getting passed once more during 2020 season becoming first franchise ever reaching 900 win plateau trailing Denver Broncos & Miami Dolphins respectfully for second & third most victories all time nearing end of 2020 campaign thus far; became first team 400 game over .500 mark achieving same feat along with becoming first franchise achieving 500 game over .500 mark en route to clinching yet another NFC north & reaching thirteenth championship game appearance following 2010 campaign matching Pittsburgh Steelers respectfully for second most all time trailing New England Patriots who reached fifteenth such contest during same year pushing themselves even further beyond third placed Dallas Cowboys who reached eleventh instance following 1995 campaign preceding Pittsburgh’s eleventh appearance following 2005 contest joining Arizona Cardinals , Carolina Panthers , Indianapolis Colts , San Francisco 49ers as franchises tied for fourth most championship appearances all time whose very next victory will move into exclusive fourth place followed then subsequently tied again respectively alongside Cardinals once aforementioned milestone URLs finally reached breaking tie mutually shared previously setting new respective franchise milestones still unchallenged currently still active continuing21st century
