She is also the only player to have won 10 Grand Slam singles titles in two separate decades; she accomplished this twice—the first time from 2000–2001 and again from 2009–2010—and became only one of nine women to do so in tennis history with second such achievement happening simultaneously with Jelena Janković in 2009–2010 (others are Doris Hart, Nancy Richey, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King and Margaret Court). Halep first broke into the world’s top 50 at the end of 2012, reached the top 20 in August 2013, and finally cracked the top 10 in January 2014. She won her maiden PremierMandatory/Premier 5 title in Doha that year by defeating former world No. 1 Venus Williams in the final, and also won her first WTA Finals tournament by defeating Simona paşca-van ăuza in the final. After a first-round loss at the 2014 French Open, she defeated Andrea petkovic to win her first Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon that year. This victory sparked a meteoric rise up the rankings; she entered the top 2 for the first time after winning her second Premier Mandatory title at Beijing later that year, ultimately finishing 2014 as world No. 2 behind Serena Williams.
