The best WWE wrestler of all time is a matter of opinion. However, there are a few wrestlers who are considered the best by many fans.
WWE History
WWE is a professional wrestling entertainment company founded in 1952. It is the largest wrestling promotion in the world, holding over 500 events a year. The company’s global headquarters is located in Stamford, Connecticut, with offices in major cities around the world. WWE has been a publicly traded company since 1999, and it is currently listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
WWE’s beginnings in the 1950s
WWE has its origins in the 1950s when it was founded by Jess McMahon and Toots Mondt in 1952 as Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC). In 1953, McMahon and Mondt separated CWC into a new company, the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) and in 1963 the company was renamed World Wide Wrestling Enterprises (WWWE). In 1979, the WWWF was renamed World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which resulted in it becoming McMahon’s sole promotion after Mondt’s retirement that year.
The golden era of the 1980s
The 1980s is considered the golden era of professional wrestling by many fans. It was a time when the business was expanding and growing rapidly. The days of small, regional promotions were over and a new era of national wrestling promotions had begun. The two biggest promotions in the country were the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). Both had considerable success during the decade and were responsible for some of the most iconic moments and storylines in wrestling history.
The WWF, led by Vince McMahon Sr., was the more family-friendly of the two promotions during this time. They featured stars like Hulk Hogan, André the Giant, Sgt. Slaughter, and Macho Man Randy Savage. The NWA, on the other hand, was edgier and more hardcore with stars like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Harley Race, and Jimmy Snuka. Both promotions had their share of success during the 1980s but it was the WWF that would come out on top in the end.
The Attitude Era of the late 1990s
The Attitude Era is the term used by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to describe the company’s programming from 1997 to 2002, considered to be the most successful period in WWE’s history. The attitude era saw the introduction of new Superstars, edgier storylines, and an increase in adult themes and profanity. The era began with the Montreal Screwjob at Survivor Series in 1997 and ended with the Undisputed WWE Championship being unified at Vengeance in 2002.
Some of the biggest names to come out of the attitude era include “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Mankind, Kane, Big Show, Kurt Angle,Edge, Jericho and many more. This was also a period where backstage feuds were often as big as or bigger than the actual storylines happening in the ring.
