In honor of Black History Month, we’re taking a look at the first black quarterback in the NFL. He was a trailblazer in the sport and helped to open up opportunities for other black athletes.
The first black quarterback in the NFL was Marlin Briscoe.
Marlin Briscoe became the first black quarterback in the NFL when he was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 1968. He played two seasons with the Broncos before being traded to the Buffalo Bills, where he played for four seasons. He is best remembered for his time with the Bills, leading them to an AFC Championship game in 1974.
