Michael Sam
Michael Sam was born on January 7, 1990, in La Villa, Texas. He was a highly touted defensive end coming out of high school and played college football at the University of Missouri. In his senior year, Sam was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He came out as gay in February 2014, making him the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL. Sam was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams but was released during the preseason. He then spent time on the practice squads of the Dallas Cowboys and Montreal Alouettes before retiring from football in August 2015.
Jason Collins
Jason Collins (born December 2, 1978) is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. He played college basketball for Stanford University, where he was an All-American in 2000–01. He was drafted 18th overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. He went on to play for the New Jersey Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Washington Wizards and Brooklyn Nets.
In April 2013, Collins publicly came out as gay, becoming the first active male professional athlete in any of the four major North American pro sports leagues to do so.
