Robert Parish
Robert Parish (born August 30, 1953) is an American former professional basketball player. He played center in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1976 to 1997. With 14,051 career points and 9,609 career rebounds, he is second only to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar among centers in NBA history. His 1,339 games played is the third most of any NBA player.
Parish was known for his strong defense and was selected to nine NBA All-Defensive Teams. He was named the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1983–84 and won three championships with the Boston Celtics during his 21-season NBA career. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003 as a member of the 1960s All-Decade Team and was also inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame, Cathedral of Learning 50th Anniversary All-Star Team and New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014. His nickname was “The Chief”.
