The Original Six

In the67-year history of the National Hockey League, six teams have been constant members of the league. These teams, which are collectively known as the “Original Six,” were all founded in the 1920s and 1930s, and include the Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Original Six era of the NHL is considered by many to be a golden age of hockey. From 1942 to 1967, these six teams were the only ones in the league, making for intense rivalries and some of the most memorable moments in hockey history.

Today, all six of these teams are still in operation, and they continue to be some of the most popular and successful franchises in the NHL. In fact, three of them (the Bruins, Blackhawks and Canadiens) have won a Stanley Cup since 2010.
