He is also the tallest person ever to have played professional basketball, as well as the tallest person ever to have played in the Olympics.
Muresan was born in Triteni, Romania. He first started playing basketball when he was nine years old, and eventually ended up playing for the Romanian national team. In 1989, he moved to the United States to play college basketball for Georgetown University. In his two seasons with the Hoyas, Muresan averaged 9.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Muresan was selected by the Washington Bullets (now known as the Washington Wizards) with the 30th pick in the 1993 NBA draft. He went on to play four seasons with the Bullets/Wizards, averaging 14.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. After being traded to the New Jersey Nets in 1997, Muresan’s career was cut short due to injuries; he played just 17 games over two seasons with the Nets before retiring from professional basketball in 1999.
In his NBA career, Muresan averaged 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 247 games played.

Bol retired from basketball in 1995. After his retirement, he devoted much of his time to humanitarian work supporting Sudanese refugees and promoting peace in Darfur. In 2004, he founded the Ring True Foundation to assist underprivileged children around the world. Bol died from kidney failure in 2010 at the age of 47.
