WWE World Champions
The WWE World Champion is the top title holder in WWE. The title is currently held by Drew McIntyre, who is in his first reign. He won the title at WrestleMania 36 by defeating Brock Lesnar. The title has been held by some of the biggest names in WWE history, including The Rock, John Cena, and Hulk Hogan.
World Heavyweight Championship
The World Heavyweight Championship was a professional wrestling world heavyweight championship in WWE. It was established by WWE in 2002 after WWE bought out World Championship Wrestling (WCW). The Extraordinary Gentleman Jack Gallagher is the current champion in his first reign.
The championship was contested in WWE’s Raw and SmackDown! brand divisions until it was unified with the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXVIII.[1] The title became exclusive to the Raw brand as a result of that unification,[2] but it was deactivated in August 2016 and replaced with the Universal Championship.[3]
The World Heavyweight Championship was one of two top championships in WWE from 2002 until 2006; it was gained by defeating the champion of the other world title, the WWE Undisputed Championship (the “original” world title of WWE, which had been renamed from the WWF Championship). When ECW originally debuted in 2006, they also utilized their own world title, the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Over time, the ECW brand slowly faded away and ultimately ceased operations in 2010, with its last ever champion Christian holding on to his title until he joined the SmackDown brand two weeks later. In mid-2010, former ECW head Paul Heyman recommended that Christian unify all three titles; however this idea was scrapped due to fan backlash.[4][5] Instead,Lesnar became sole owner of both championships by defeating Orton at SummerSlam.[6][7] Edge subsequently won both titles himself at WrestleMania XXVII by defeating Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus respectively; however he vacated both titles due to injury shortly thereafter.[8][9] The vacant titles were then unified at Extreme Rules 2011 into one singular championship, simply known as “the WWE Championship”.[10][11]
In 2013, following The Shield’s victory over Team Hell No for the Tag Team Championships, WWE Champion John Cena proposed that all future champions should be able to defend their title on any show; this idea led to Daniel Bryan unifying the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships at Night of Champions later that year after he defeated Randy Orton and Cena respectively.[12][13][14] However this unification did not last long as Bryan was subsequently stripped of the World Heavyweight Championship due to an injury;[15] an interim champion would be determined later that night when Alberto Del Rio defeated John Cena in a tournament final to become champion for a second time.[16][17] At TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2013 later that year, Reigns defeated then-champion Orton to win his very first singles championship in WWE and end Bryan’s reign as interim champion;[18][19] this made Reigns only the second Superstar ever (after Kurt Angle) to win their first championship within their first year with WWE (Reigns made his main roster debut eleven months prior at Survivor Series 2012).[20]”
WWE Championship
The WWE Championship is a world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE, currently contested on their Raw brand. It is one of WWE’s original titles (along with the World Heavyweight Championship), dating back to 1963. The current champion is Brock Lesnar, who is in his second reign.
The title was first introduced in 1963 as the WWE (World Heavyweight) Title and later renamed in 2002 as the WWE Undisputed Championship during The Invasion storyline when then WWF Champion “Stone Cold” Steve Austin joined forces with then WCW Champion The Rock to fight against The Alliance (a coalition of former WCW, ECW and WWF wrestlers who were upset over being held down by Vince McMahon). After the Undisputed title was unified with the World Heavyweight Championship, it was subsequently renamed back to the WWE Championship in 2006.
WWE Universal Championship
As of right now, the WWE Universal Championship is vacant. This is because the current champion, Brock Lesnar, has not been seen on WWE television since he defeated Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel back in November.
While Lesnar is still technically the champion, it is widely believed that he will be dropping the title at some point in the near future. If and when that happens, there are a few different superstars who could end up being the new champion.
The most likely candidate right now is Roman Reigns. Reigns is currently scheduled to face off against Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 in April, and it is almost certain that he will be winning the match. While there have been no confirmation from WWE, it seems highly likely that Reigns will become the new Universal Champion at WrestleMania.
Another potential candidate is Braun Strowman. Despite losing to Lesnar at Crown Jewel, Strowman remains one of the most popular superstars in WWE today. He has also defeated Reigns on multiple occasions, which could put him in a good position to win the title if Reigns does not end up being champion by WrestleMania.
Whoever ends up being crowned the new WWE Universal Champion, one thing is for sure – it will be a major moment in WrestleMania history.

The championship became exclusive to Raw in August 29, 2016 as a result of the 2016 draft, but it was unified with the SmackDown Tag Team Championship on October 9, 2017; this made it available to be competed for by wrestlers from both brands. As a result of the 2019 Superstar Shake-up, the title once again became exclusive to Raw.
As a result of the 2020 draft, the championship was moved back to SmackDown.

It was created to be exclusive to the SmackDown! brand as a counterpart to then-Raw exclusive World Tag Team Championship; both titles were defended on both brands until August 29, 2010. The championship became exclusive to SmackDown in October 2011 when then-WWE Tag Team Champions Air Boom (Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston) were drafted to Raw as part of the 2011 Supplemental Draft. A third team title, known as the WWE Universal Tag Team Championship, was introduced on December 18, 2017 at Clash of Champions and exclusively defends on Raw. The title was established as the WCW Cruiserweight Championship on June 14, 1991, at The Great American Bash. The title was then deactivated until 2016 when WWE revived it as the WWE Cruiserweight Championship and reassigned it to their developmental brand NXT before moving it to Raw in 2017 and finally SmackDown in 2018.
In WCW, the title became known as the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship after then-World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair incorporated it into his title reign in 1992.Later that year, the newly branded World Wrestling Federation (WWF) obtained the rights to the championship as a result of the purchase of WCW’s assets by Vince McMahon’s company Titan Sports. The championship remained inactive until 2016 when WWE reactivated it under its original name with a tournament to crown its first champion since 2007; T.J. Perkins was victorious in that tournament and became the new Cruiserweight Champion. After being unified with the NXT Tag Team Championship at Extreme Rules 2018, which resulted in the vacating of all cruiserweight titles, WWE ran another tournament to determine new championship holders; Cedric Alexander won for Raw while Buddy Murphy won for SmackDown.
