The teams

The Los Angeles Lakers

After winning back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010, the Lakers failed to make the playoffs in each of the next four seasons. They returned to the postseason in 2015 but were defeated by the Houston Rockets in the first round. The Lakers put together another losing campaign in 2016 but managed to turn things around in 2017, when they went 35-47 to finish third in the Pacific Division. LeBron Raymone James Sr. (/ləˈbrɒn/; born December 30, 1984) is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players in NBA history. James has won four NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards, four NBA Finals MVP Awards, two Olympic gold medals, an NBA Championship, and ranks fourth in both all-time points scored and all-time assists in the NBA.

A three-time All-Star, James played for the Cavaliers from 2003 to 2010 and again from 2014 to 2018. He joined the Miami Heat in 2010 and won two NBA championships with the team in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, he returned to the Cavaliers. This was followed by a run to the 2016 NBA Finals, where Cleveland lost to the Golden State Warriors in seven games. In 2018, James opted out of his contract with Cleveland to sign with the Lakers.

Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis, nicknamed “AD” and “The Brow”, is an American professional basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He plays the power forward and center positions. Davis was drafted 1st overall in the 2012 NBA draft by New Orleans, is a five-time NBA All-Star, and has been named to three All-NBA First Teams and three NBA All-Defensive Teams. He also led the NBA in blocks per game in 2015–16 and 2016–17. In 2019, he won an NBA championship with the Lakers after they defeated the Miami Heat in six games.

Anthony Davis was born on March 11, 1993, in Chicago, Illinois. He was raised in the south suburbs of Chicago by his mother Ethel Lafalere and stepfather Anthony McClam. His father Anton Blossomgame Sr., whom he knew only through stories and pictures, died when Davis was an infant. At age 5 he began playing basketball at local community centers. When Davis was 10 years old, his family moved from Chicago to viciously racist Mississippi to escape crime; his mother had been robbed at gunpoint back home. In Mississippi he attended Elite Academy basketball camp where he met future Kentucky teammate Michael Kidd-Gilchrist; both would go on to be top-five picks in their respective 2012 and 2013 NBA drafts. As a result of attending Elite Academy—and his own prodigious talents—Davis began receiving college recruiting letters as a sixth grader.

Jimmy Butler

Jimmy Butler is an American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). After playing one year of college basketball for Tyler Junior College, he transferred to Marquette University. He was drafted with the 30th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. Butler rapidly improved his game and became one of the NBA’s most well-rounded players; he was named an All-Star for the first time in 2015. In 2019, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he spent one season before joining the Miami Heat in free agency.

Erik Spoelstra is an American professional basketball coach who is currently the head coach of the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has led the team to six NBA Finals appearances, four NBA championships, and currently holds the record for the most playoff wins (145) in franchise history.

Spoelstra was born in Evanston, Illinois, to Jon Spoelstra, a commander in the U.S. Navy, and Marie Carmen Garcia-Spoelstra. His father is of Dutch descent, while his mother is of Filipino ancestry.He grew up in Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon, before moving to Anaheim Hills, California at age 11, where he attended Mater Dei High School.He then played point guard at Oregon’s Division III Linfield College from 1988 to 1992.
