The American League is made up of 15 teams, divided into three divisions: the East Division, the Central Division, and the West Division. The winner of each division goes on to play in the playoffs.

In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the West division title, and are currently leading the league with a record of 102-57. The St. Louis Cardinals and the Atlanta Braves have both clinched playoff spots as well, with records of 91-68 and 90-69 respectively. The Chicago White Sox (87-72), Toronto Blue Jays (86-73), and Seattle Mariners (85-74) are all vying for that final spot.
The fans
From the Bronx to Flushing, Queens, diehard baseball fans are looking forward to the start of the playoffs tomorrow. Local taverns are decorated with team memorabilia, and fans are donning their favorite player’s jerseys. The playoffs are a time when the city can come together and root for their team.
The American League
The American League is made up of two divisions, the East and the West. The teams with the best record in each division play each other in the American League Division Series (ALDS). The winner of that series goes on to play the winner of the National League Division Series (NLDS) in the World Series.
The ALDS and NLDS are best-of-five series. The team that wins three games first advances to the next round. In case of a tie, whoever won more regular-season games gets home-field advantage.
So far, the Red Sox and Astros have clinched their respective division titles, and the Yankees have clinched a spot in the AL Wild Card Game. The Rays and Indians are still fighting for the final spot in the AL playoffs.
