The stats
The NBA game is a lot like any other sport. There are two teams, each trying to score more points than the other. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. But how do you know who is winning the game?
points
In the 2017-2018 season, the Houston Rockets led the league in points per game, averaging 112.4. The Rockets were followed by the Golden State Warriors, who averaged 113.5 points per game. The Warriors have been one of the best offensive teams in recent years and have set numerous scoring records.
assists
In the NBA, assists are defined as the pass leading directly to a made basket. An assist can be awarded even if the player receiving the pass does not score on the possession, but it must be a scoring opportunity. If a player makes a basket and is fouled in the process, and the foul results in one or more free throws, then the assisting player is also credited with a compile stat known as an “assist-plus-foul”. A player can accumulate assist-plus-fouls without accumulating any assists; these are not recorded as assists in official NBA statistics.
rebounds
In the National Basketball Association, a rebound is defined as the Change of possession of the ball that occurs when a shot or pass misses the net and the ball “bounces” off the backboard or rim. The team that gains possession of the ball is awarded a rebound. A rebound can occur on either offense or defense, and can be collected by either a player or a team.
