The history of the WWE Women’s Championship

It is one of two women’s Championships in WWE, alongside the RAW Women’s Championship on the Raw brand. The current champion is Bayley, who is in her first reign.
The title was established as the WWE Women’s Championship on October 20, 2010, replacing the earlier WWE Women’s Championship that had been retired in September 2010. The inaugural champion was Natalya. A tournament was held to determine the inaugural champion at Night of Champions that same month, which was won by Natalya. However, the title lineage continues from its predecessor rather than beginning with Natalya as the inaugural champion.
The title has changed hands a total of eleven times among nine different wrestlers. As a result of the 2016 draft, it became exclusive to the SmackDown brand, where it has since remained. Charlotte Flair has the record for most reigns with four.

The Horsewomen began their careers in NXT, WWE’s developmental brand, where they quickly became standouts. All four women were called up to the main roster in 2015, with Lynch and Flair being drafted to Raw and Banks and Bayley being drafted to SmackDown. Since then, the Horsewomen have been involved in some of WWE’s most high-profile storylines and matches.
In 2016, Lynch and Flair became the first women to headline a WWE pay-per-view event (PPV) when they faced each other at Hell in a Cell. The following year, they made history again when they competed in the first-ever women’s match in WrestleMania history. In 2018, Banks and Bayley became the first women to headline a WWE PPV when they competed against each other at Evolution.
The Four Horsewomen have been widely praised for their contributions to WWE’s Women’s Revolution, which has seen a significant increase in opportunities for women in the company.
The Women’s Evolution
The Women’s Evolution is a term used to describe the change in the role of women in WWE. For many years, women have been involved in wrestling, but it was always seen as a sideshow or something that was not on the same level as the men’s division. In recent years, however, WWE has increasingly started to focus on the women’s division, giving them longer matches, more storyline development, and more opportunities to shine. This has led to some of the best female wrestlers in the world coming to WWE, and the Women’s Evolution has arguably been one of the most positive changes in WWE in recent years.
