Who Just Retired From The NFL?
We take a look at some of the NFL’s biggest stars who have recently retired.
Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, has announced his retirement from the NFL. Manning played for the Indianapolis Colts for 14 seasons before being released in 2012. He then signed with the Denver Broncos, where he played for four seasons and won a Super Bowl in 2015. Manning is a five-time NFL MVP and was named to 14 Pro Bowls. He is also the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
Marshawn Lynch
After a decade in the NFL, Marshawn Lynch has decided to hang up his cleats. The 33-year-old running back announced his retirement in an Instagram post on Saturday, writing that he is “grateful for what football has given” to him.
Lynch was a first-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2007 and spent three seasons with the team before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks, where he became a superstar. He was a key member of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2013 and was named to five Pro Bowls during his time in Seattle.
Lynch abruptly retired from the NFL after the 2015 season, but came out of retirement midway through the 2017 season to join his hometown Oakland Raiders. He played two seasons with the Raiders before once again retiring prior to the 2019 season.
In overall career rushing yards, Lynch ranks 13th all-time with 10,379 yards. He also ranks 16th all-time in rushing touchdowns with 84 touchdowns.
Calvin Johnson
Calvin Johnson, who was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2007, has announced his retirement from the NFL. In eight seasons, Johnson amassed 11,619 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns. He is widely considered one of the greatest wide receivers of all time.
Jake Locker
Jake Locker, former first-round pick of the Tennessee Titans, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 26. In a statement released through the Titans, Locker said “I have enjoyed my time in the NFL, but I have decided that it is time for me to move on to the next chapter in my life. I am grateful for the opportunity that the Titans gave me and for all of the people in the organization who have supported me.”
Locker was drafted 8th overall by the Titans in 2011 and started 23 games over his four seasons with the team. He finishes his career with 5 STEM touchdowns and 11 rushing touchdowns.
