Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. Soon after his birth, his parents moved the family to Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan’s father, James Jordan, was a mechanic while his mother, Deloris, worked at a bank. Jordan has two older brothers, Larry and James, and one sister, Deloris. Jordan’s brothers used to play basketball with him in the driveway of their house.

Regular Season

In the regular season, Jordan averaged a league leading 30.4 points per game (ppg) on 52.5% shooting from the field, 6.7 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in 37.1 minutes of action. He led the Bulls to a 47–35 record and the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. In the first round of the playoffs, the Bulls were matched up against the third seeded Milwaukee Bucks, who swept them in four games.

Playoffs

In the playoffs, Jordan scored an NBA record 38.0 points per game while also averaging 7.5 rebound and 6.3 assists per game. He led the Bulls to their first ever NBA Championship and was named the Finals MVP. In the following two seasons, Jordan again lead the Bulls to NBA Championships and was again named Finals MVP (becoming the first player ever to win the award in back-to-back years). After a brief retirement, Jordan returned to basketball in 2001 and played for the Washington Wizards for two seasons. During his time with the Wizards, he became only the third player in NBA history to score over 30,000 career points.

Wilt Chamberlain

Wilt Chamberlain is one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. He played for the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Chamberlain holds the record for the most points scored in a game, with 100. He also holds the record for the most points scored in a season, with 4,029.

Wilt Chamberlain holds numerous NBA records that may never be broken. In the 1961-62 season, Chamberlain became the first and only player to score 3,000 points in a season. He averaged 50.4 points per game that season, which is still an NBA record. He also set records for most points in a game (100), most points in a half (61) and most field goals made in a game (36).

In the 1967 NBA Playoffs, Chamberlain again faced Bill Russell and the Celtics in the Eastern Division Finals. The 76ers won Game 1, 120–112, in overtime, but the Celtics swept the next four games. In Game 7, played at the Boston Garden, Chamberlain was held to 10 points in the first half and finished with just 18 points and 22 rebounds as the Sixers lost by a score of 109–103.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the all-time leading scorer in the NBA. He played for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers during his 20-year career in the league. Abdul-Jabbar was a six-time NBA champion, a 19-time All-Star, and the league’s MVP on six occasions.

In his first 10 seasons, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 30 or more points per game eight times. He reached the 40-point mark on 13 occasions, and scored 50 or more points 19 times. His career high came in a February 1971 game against the New York Knicks, when he scored 55 points.

Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring average peaked at 34.8 points per game in the 1971-72 season, which was also his first championship season with the Lakers. He averaged at least 30 points per game 11 times in his career, and finished with a career average of 24.6 points per game.
