Who Leads the NFL in Rushing?

The NFL season is in full swing, and there are a lot of contenders for the title of leading rusher. Who do you think will take home the crown?

Ezekiel Elliott

As of September 8th, Ezekiel Elliott leads the NFL in rushing with 453 yards on 104 attempts. This averages out to 4.4 yards per carry. Elliott also has three rushing touchdowns.

This is generally considered one of the most important statistics for running backs and is one of the offensive statistics used to determine who the best running back in a given season is.

Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys leads the NFL in rushing yards so far in 2019, with 1,150 yards. Elliott has been one of the best running backs in the NFL since he was drafted in 2016, and he looks like he is on pace to have another great season in 2019.

He finished the game with 140 yards on 30 carries and added another 36 yards on four receptions, en route to a 26–20 Cowboys victory. In total, Elliott had 1,631 scrimmage yards and 15 touchdowns on the season. His 1,631 yards from scrimmage led all rookies as well as all NFL running backs. He played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, and was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Titans. In his rookie season, he became the Titans’ starting running back after DeMarco Murray was injured. As the starter, he helped the Titans make the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Derrick Henry leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns with sixteen. He is followed by Dalvin Cook with fifteen and Josh Jacobs with eleven.

Dalvin Cook

Dalvin Cook leads the NFL in rushing with 1,654 yards. He also has 13 rushing touchdowns. Cook has had an amazing season and is on pace to break the NFL’s single-season rushing record. He is a big reason why the Vikings are one of the best teams in the NFL.

As of October 25th, 2020, Dalvin Cook of the Minnesota Vikings leads the NFL in rushing yards with 991. He is closely followed by Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans with 964 yards. Ezekiel Elliott of the Dallas Cowboys is in third with 831 yards.

Touchdowns

Dalvin Cook leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 13. He also has the most total touchdowns with 15.

Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders leads the NFL in rushing with 1,150 yards on the season. Jacobs has been a big part of the Raiders’ success this season, as they currently sit atop the AFC West with a 10-3 record.

That ranks him sixth among the 27 running backs with at least 175 carries over the past two seasons, behind only Derrick Henry (9.4%), Dalvin Cook (8.2%), Nick Chubb (7.5%), Aaron Jones (7.3%) and Kenyan Drake (6.9%).

Chris Carson

Chris Carson is an American football running back for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Oklahoma State and was drafted by the Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft. As of Week 8 of the 2020 NFL season, Carson leads the NFL in rushing with 761 yards.
