The Birth of the NBA

It was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946, as the Basketball Association of America (BAA).

The National Basketball League is formed

The National Basketball League (NBL) was formed in 1937. The league was originally formed to protect players from being taken advantage of and to create a standard set of playing rules. The league consisted of just eleven teams, all located in the Midwest and East Coast of the United States. In 1949, the NBL merged with the Basketball Association of America (BAA) to form the National Basketball Association (NBA).

In 1946, representatives of the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball League met to discuss a merger. They decided to combine the two leagues, creating a new one that would be called the National Basketball Association. The first NBA game was played on November 1, 1946.

The Modern NBA

Dr. Naismith was looking for an indoor game to keep his students occupied during the winter months. He got the idea of hanging two peach baskets on opposite ends of the gym and playing a game where the players would try to shoot a ball into the other team’s basket.

In the NBA today, there are many fresh young faces as well as some veterans who have been in the league for a while. The average player in the NBA is 27 years old, and the average salary is about $7 million per year. The most popular players in the NBA today are LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry. These three players are often considered the best in the world at their respective positions.
