Who made WWE? That’s a question that many people have asked over the years. While there are a number of people who have been involved in the company’s success, the answer to that question is Vince McMahon.

Vince McMahon Sr.

Vince McMahon Sr. was born in 1914 in Harlem, New York. He was the only child of Jess and Vin McMahon. His father was an alcoholic and his mother was a stay-at-home mom. When Vince was nine, his parents divorced and he was sent to live with his grandparents in North Carolina.

In 1952, Vince McMahon Sr. took over Capitol Wrestling Corporation from his father, Jess McMahon. The business was struggling, and McMahon Sr. quickly began to turn things around. He started running shows in New York City, and began expanding into other areas of the Northeast. In 1963, he reached an agreement with the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) to become their East Coast territory. This arrangement allowed him to run his own shows, while still being able to use the WWWF’s name and roster of wrestlers.

In the 1970s, McMahon Sr. began to distance himself from the WWWF, and started to position his company as a more national promotion. In 1971, he changed the name of his company to the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). He also began holding more shows outside of the Northeast, including in Canada and Japan. In 1979, he changed the name of his company again, this time to the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

In 1982, McMahon Sr. was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 69.

Vince McMahon Jr.

Vince McMahon Jr. is the Chairman and CEO of WWE. He is also the majority owner of the company. McMahon was born on August 24, 1945 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He is the son of Vince McMahon Sr. and Victoria McMahon.

Vince McMahon Jr. takes over WWE

The McMahons have three children: sons Shane and Stephanie, and daughter Stephanie McMahon-Levesque. All three children are involved with WWE in some capacity. Shane resigned from his position as Executive Vice President of Global Media in 2010 but still makes occasional appearances on WWE programming. Stephanie is currently the Chief Brand Officer for WWE and is married to Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who is Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative for WWE.
