Under McLane’s ownership, which began in November 1992, the Astros made nine playoff appearances (including six consecutive from 1997–2002), won five NL Central titles, won their first NL pennant in 2005, and reached the World Series for the first time in franchise history in 2017. In addition, Minute Maid Park was opened downtown during McLane’s ownership. He also frequently made headlines by signing high-profile free agents to lucrative contracts, including Carlos Lee and Roger Clemens.
