The 2017 NBA playoffs began on April 15, 2017. It is a best-of-seven tournament between the eight first-ranked teams in each conference, with the winner from each conference facing each other in the NBA Finals. The Finals is a best-of-seven tournament between the two conference champions, that is held annually in June.
What is the NBA playoffs?
The NBA playoffs are a best-of-seven elimination tournament annually held after the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) regular season to determine the league’s champion. The playoffs were instituted in 1947, when the NBA was formed. The tournament brackets are made up of eight teams from each of the league’s two conferences, the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference. When four teams remain in each conference—referred to as the NBA Conference Finals—the tournament reaches its climax.The playoffs are generally considered to be one of the most prestigious events in professional basketball.
How do teams qualify for the playoffs?
In order to qualify for the playoffs, a team must finish the regular season with a record above .500. For example, if a team goes 82-80, they would not qualify because their record is only two games above .500. The team with the best record in each conference automatically earns a playoff berth. The next best teams in each conference (based on record) earn playoff spots as well.

Eight teams from each conference qualify for the NBA playoffs. The conference seeds are based on each team’s record. The team with the best record in each conference is seeded first, the team with the second-best record is seeded second, and so on.

There are eight teams remaining in the NBA playoffs: the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Denver Nuggets, the Utah Jazz, the Houston Rockets, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Boston Celtics, and the Miami Heat.

The Milwaukee Bucks have the best record in the NBA at 60-22. They are followed by the Toronto Raptors (58-24), the Denver Nuggets (54-28), and the Houston Rockets (53-29).

The 2020 NBA playoffs are underway with the first round beginning on August 17th. Tonight, August 20th, there are four games scheduled.
