How do teams qualify for the playoffs?

For example, if a team goes 82-80, they would not qualify because their record is only two games above .500. The team with the best record in each conference automatically earns a playoff berth. The next best teams in each conference (based on record) earn playoff spots as well.

Eight teams from each conference qualify for the NBA playoffs. The conference seeds are based on each team’s record. The team with the best record in each conference is seeded first, the team with the second-best record is seeded second, and so on.
