The Packers are the last of the “small town teams” which were common in the NFL during the league’s early days of 1925 and 1950. Founded in 1919 by Earl “Curly” Lambeau and George Whitney Calhoun, the franchise traces its lineage to other semi-professional teams in Green Bay dating back to 1896. Between 1920 and 1953, the Packers competed against other semi-pro clubs from around Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, before joining the NFL in 1921.

Today, the Green Bay Packers are one of the most successful teams in the NFL. They have won 13 league championships (more than any other team in NFL history), including nine NFL Championships prior to Super Bowl IV and four Super Bowls (I, II, XXXI, XLV). The Packers have long enjoyed a strong rivalry with their historic NFC North foe, the Chicago Bears.
